What You'll DoNorthStar Energy Services is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Engineer to provide leadership and expertise in the development of Midstream Energy Projects. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a dynamic team of professional engineers and designers, contributing to the successful delivery of complex engineering solutions across multiple disciplines. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of projects, from initial design through to execution, ensuring that systems and products meet both regulatory and company standards. This position requires a blend of advanced technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills, as well as the ability to deliver high-impact projects that drive innovation and excellence in engineering.
What You'll BringEngineering Leadership:
Serve as the subject-matter expert (SME) for key technical areas, providing expert guidance to engineering teams and ensuring high-quality design and execution across all project phases.Provide technical consulting to internal teams and external stakeholders (including clients and regulatory bodies) on complex engineering challenges, system designs, and new technology implementations.Develop detailed equipment specifications for a wide range of mechanical systems and equipment, such as:Pressure Vessels, Drums, and TanksFilters, Mixers, StrainersSeparatorsPumps, Compressors, and TurbinesApply expert knowledge of standard manufacturing methods (machining, welding, grinding, etc.) to the design and selection of mechanical systems and components.Bring advanced expertise in materials engineering and metallurgy to ensure the selection of appropriate materials for critical applications.Expert in the development of equipment and piping layouts for facilities such as Compressor Stations, Pump Stations, Tank Terminals, and Truck Loading Facilities.Conduct drawing reviews across all disciplines.
Deliverable and Code Compliance:
Lead the creation and implementation of QA/QC plans and processes to ensure all project deliverables meet Industry Standards, Municipal Requirements, and relevant Regulatory Codes.Act as the authority on the application and interpretation of various industry codes and standards, including:Title 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195 (Pipeline Safety)ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8 (Piping Codes)NFPA 30 (Flammable and Combustible Liquids)ASME BPVC-VII (Pressure Vessels)API 620, API 650, API 12C (Tank Design)API 610 (Centrifugal Pumps)API 674/675/676 (Positive Displacement Pumps)API 682 (Shaft Sealing Systems for Pumps)API 520/521 (Pressure Relief Devices)Ensure proper interpretation of codes related to oil and gas gathering, transmission, and distribution pipeline systems.Independently audit and verify line sizing calculations, pipe support load analysis, and nozzle load stress evaluations in accordance with applicable codes and standards.Maintain rigorous control over project documentation, ensuring that all Design Basis Documents, Hydraulic Reports, Calculations, and other critical deliverables are properly documented, reviewed, and filed.Conduct independent QA/QC audits of engineering drawings to ensure they meet project requirements and align with all code requirements.
Project Execution & Mentorship:
Oversee the design integration of Company Standards, Municipality Requirements, and Regulatory Codes within all project deliverables.Review and approve third-party vendor drawings to ensure alignment with the mechanical design and project specifications.Contribute to the development of a continuous improvement process by implementing a system for “lessons learned” and ensuring that insights from past projects are used to improve future designs.Mentor and instruct engineering teams on Code, Industry Best Practices, and Client-Specific Requirements to promote professional development and high-quality work.Protect company confidential information and ensure the integrity of all intellectual property and project documentation.General Requirements:

Exceptional attention to detail and process-oriented thinking, with a strong focus on accuracy and meeting project objectives.Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, managing multiple priorities while maintaining a sense of urgency and commitment to delivering high-quality results.Strong technical leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor engineers and guide teams toward successful project outcomes.Proficient in engineering design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and analytical tools for mechanical design and analysis.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred.Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of Texas.Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in midstream energy, petrochemical, or industrial engineering.Extensive experience with project management and managing engineering teams across various disciplines.Expertise in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or other relevant areas within the oil and gas sector is a plus.
