Principal Engineer: Marketplace Search

The Marketplace Search team builds features and experiences to empower our travelers to search for all our product offerings and allow travelers to book their complete trips on the platform and to provide nextGen Search architecture and leadership to Marketplace Team across our Amex GBT Solutions.
This position will closely work with Product owners, business partners and Search engineers to come up with nextGen architecture plans, technology choices, design and lifecycle, and information integrity. A search principal engineer will resolve, develop architectural approaches & solutions, conduct architectural reviews and recommend how to proceed with the applications (replace, retire, maintain, etc.).
**What You'll Be Doing:**
+ Owning the development of nextGen Architecture Solutions for Marketplace Team.
+ Leading in the evaluation of new technology around Search – Semantic search, LLMs, Vector Databases.
+ Drive overall search platform roadmap and implementations.
+ Participate in the Architecture assessment and design for infrastructure domains that provide core capabilities for the Marketplace.
+ Participate in the Architecture design of integrated systems across Marketplace and GBT solutions.
+ Define which data is extracted and the rules by which it is transformed for simple to moderately sophisticated projects.
+ Participate in nextGen technology evaluation and recommendations.
+ Participate in the development and maintenance of current and planned north star architecture.
+ Applies a GBT wide view to support the adoption of standards and practices and promote reuse, specifically around AI Search.
+ Participate in the design and implementation of Marketplace data model and metadata structures.
+ Participates in the analysis of technology industry and market trends to resolve their potential impact on the Marketplace Architecture.
**What We're Looking For:**
+ Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information technology, or related field or equivalent work experience.
+ 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
+ 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role and setting technical direction.
+ 3+ years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.
+ Exposure to Large Language Models (Open AI LLMs), AI app development frameworks, Vector databases and NLP.
+ Experienced with open-source search technologies that may include Elasticsearch or Solr.
+ Hands-on coding experience with Java and Spring framework.
+ Expertise with Search engine optimization, mapping user journeys, search relevancy and high availability architecture.
+ eCommerce platform experience.
+ Metadata, taxonomy, and search integration experience.
+ Strong demonstrative experience delivering components, products, and/or experiences in public cloud and/or hybrid eco-systems.
+ Cloud development experience that may include AWS, Azure, etc.
+ In-depth understanding and experience in two or more of the following: complex e-commerce applications, substantial real-time event and message processing, data lakes, cloud data processing, SQL and NoSQL data modeling.
+ Strong understanding of Agile SDLC implementation in proud eco-system including environments management, test automation, peer review, CI/CD, optimization, etc.
+ Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external teams that include business partners and third-party vendors.
+ Resolves moderately complex issues that occur on the Search platform roadmap and design processes.
+ Communicates with stakeholders and business partners to elicit and gather client requirements.
**Location**
Illinois, United States
The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $110,000 to $220,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that Egencia expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for our Annual Incentive Award plan, which rewards participants based on company and individual performance and is also eligible for awards under the company Equity Incentive Plan, which is designed to align participants' interests with those of shareholders.
