Principal Engineer (backend)

As a Principal Staff Engineer, you’ll bring the technical leadership to large scale architectural implementations.

This means being able to provide technical guidance, support and drive iterative delivery through thin vertical slices of features to delivered to real users in production every day. It means clarifying, elaborating and iterating on the Skyscanner engineering technology roadmap and designs. You’ll also collaborate with Principal Engineers in other areas of the business, to influence technical direction across the organization. It means participating in education, mentoring and/or coaching programs for the wider engineering community. Skyscanner is a place where your senior-level talents will really come into play. They’ll cover areas such as Java, NoSQL databases, SQL, distributed workflow (Hadoop/Spark), machine learning, AWS, Kubernetes, Istio.

 

You’ll still be hands on coding, staying up to date with the latest technical trends and languages and be fluent in one or more programming languages. You’ll lead projects requiring a wide variety of knowledges about system architecture, big data engineering, machine learning application and algorithm design. You’ll be an expert in your domain, inspiring teams to overcome difficulties in system design and think smarter to deliver software quickly. You’ll think few steps forward of technology, communicate your vision to the team and guide them to a new direction. Value and quality will be your obsessions: you’ll be a champion for world-class engineering and iterative software delivery. Experience in search/ranking/advertising is a plus
