Principal Engineer (Boilers / Pressure Vessels)

 

In this position, you will use your industry knowledge and experience to be our subject matter expert for all sizes and types of boilers and pressure vessels. This position will be part of our engineering team with a focus on boilers, pressure vessels and related equipment typically found in facilities ranging from power generation and heavy manufacturing facilities to universities and hospitals to dry cleaners and schools.

 

Equipment sizes range from desk size to utility size boilers. Equipment that you will encounter includes:

 

Watertube, Firetube and Cast-Iron boilers, hot water heatersProcess steam boilers, steam and hot water heating boilers.Pressure vessels, such as air tanks, heat exchangers, process vessels, brewery equipment.Steam systems, hot water systems, process equipment such as presses or rolls.

 

For assigned equipment and industries, you will be required to:
 

Evaluate equipment and designs to understand how they function and to identify failure modes.Analyze equipment risks associated with new opportunities.Develop risk engineering standards and best practices.Provide guidelines for ongoing engineering loss prevention activities.Assist claim investigations.Support jurisdictional inspection activities.Develop training material for both technical and non-technical personnel.  Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers and participate in technical societies to develop forward-looking trends.


Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is required or equivalent work experience. Advanced degrees or registration as a Professional Engineer is a plus. A minimum of ten years of experience in project development, design, manufacturing, construction or maintenance of Boilers and/or Pressure Vessels. 

Knowledge and Skills:

Possess strong technical and practical knowledge of design, testing, maintenance, installation, commissioning or repair services for boilers and pressure vessels. Possess working knowledge of the codes, standards or practices associated with design, testing, maintenance, repairs, installation, and operation of boilers and/or pressure vessels.Have excellent interpersonal, written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate engineering subject matter to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience writing technical papers is a plus. Have knowledge of and experience with data analytics and visualization.Possess a strong desire to keep abreast of new equipment and techniques by reading appropriate journals, associating with professional organizations, trade organizations, colleagues, equipment vendors, service companies, consultants, and government agencies, and attending conferences, training courses and continuing education courses as appropriate.Have the inquisitiveness to learn about unfamiliar pieces of equipment and processes. Have the enthusiasm to learn about the insurance business.This job will require approximately 10% to 25% travel.
