The Deployments team in Ecosystem is looking for a Principal Engineer to join the team. This role will focus on designing and building solutions to enable Forge App developers to build, test and deploy their apps effectively for the Atlassian cloud. From in-house developers to our largest marketplace partners, Atlassian is looking to build world class tooling to support their application development. Forge is Atlassian's new development platform for building apps for Atlassian cloud products including Jira and Confluence. Our team’s current focus is on expanding our deployment tooling, including the Forge CLI to support developing more complex apps, providing increased support for CI/CD and improving app versioning

What's the principal engineer role? As an Engineer well into your career, we know you're an expert at what you do and have a breadth of experience across multiple backend technologies. You take pride in being someone who more junior members look up to and sharing your expertise with others... That's why we're placing a heavy emphasis on leaning on your expertise to take on a high level of responsibility while being a role model and mentor to others on the team.

In this role, you'll get the chance to:

Regularly tackle the largest and most complex problems on the team, from technical design to launch

Deliver solutions that are used by other teams and products

Determine plans-of-attack on large projects

Routinely tackle complex architecture challenges and apply architectural standards and start using them on new projects

Lead code reviews & documentation as well as take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems

Set the standard for thorough, meaningful code reviews

Partner across engineering teams to take on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects

Transfer your depth of knowledge from your current language to excel as a Software Engineer

Mentor more junior members

Sound like an exciting opportunity? We think so too... In order to set you up for impact on day one, we'll expect you to have this on your first day:

10+ years experience in multiple hands-on software/technology leadership roles, with end-to-end responsibility through the software development lifecycle.

Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).

Expertise with one or more prominent languages such as JavaScript, Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala is required.

Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space and time.

Practice in mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization.

Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions.

Experience in Developer Experience or Developer Productivity.

Experience in CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Deployment).
