As a Principal Engineer I (CPE DOCSIS/PON) on the CPE FIRE Team (Field Issue Resolution Team), you will play a pivotal role in troubleshooting and resolving issues identified in the field and by our operational partners. This position involves active participation in engineering initiatives aimed at maintaining and enhancing the company's telecommunications hardware, software, and services. You will leverage your expertise in various access technologies, including DOCSIS/PON CPE equipment, RF environments, iCMTS, vCMTS, OLT, and R-OLT technologies, to reduce trouble calls and enhance the overall customer experience.
In addition to your proficiency with access technologies, you will apply your understanding of system architecture and testing environments to develop system requirement recommendations, contribute to design documentation, and conduct comprehensive testing of complex technical scenarios. This role demands a deep knowledge of RF technology and DOCSIS specifications. Furthermore, you will be responsible for working with vendors and overseeing trouble ticket resolution along with service deliverables in alignment with Charter's business requirements and internal customer needs.

Actively and consistently support initiatives aimed at simplifying and enhancing the customer experience.Collaborate with operational teams, including Access Networks, Application Provisioning Systems, and Field Operations, to coordinate troubleshooting and debugging efforts. This includes direct engagement with vendors to identify root causes, drive solutions, and validate fixes.Utilize extensive knowledge of RF environments to design and implement complex RF systems. Create RF testing scenarios that yield repeatable results, facilitating the replication and resolution of field issues.Demonstrate expertise in Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) Networks and familiarity with Field Operations teams, reporting, and tools. Additionally, possess knowledge of Access Network systems, including iCMTS, vCMTS, OLT, and R-OLT technologies.Effectively communicate complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.Conduct troubleshooting for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) - DOCSIS and PON devices and platforms.Lead various technical projects, ensuring successful execution and adherence to objectives.Author comprehensive technical documents, including network design diagrams, implementation guides, and field bulletins.Designs, implements, monitors, enhances, and troubleshoots systems and devices in assigned areas.Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation, as necessary.Tests and reviews DOCSIS system designs. Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards, and documentation are met.Mentors and guides the work of technical staff.Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.Knows, understands, and follows company policy.Performs other duties as requested by manager.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations. Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Required Education
Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
Engineering work experience - 5-10
Project management work experience - 5-10

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
