Responsibilities:

This position will support the MDA Chief Architect, Advanced Concepts Evaluation Team (MDA/CAS) and the MDA Chief Scientist’s Team (MDA/CA-E). These are complimentary roles with a focus on advanced sensor and weapon concept design and performance analysis.  Among the specialized skills we are seeking are proven space system and directed energy modeling and simulation capabilities, a comprehensive understanding of threat systems and lethality and the ability to distill and communicate results effectively to senior leadership to inform future architecture decisions.

Duties Include:

Evaluate MDS capabilities and assess system performance against projected threats

Recommend and assess unconventional methods for missile defense and defeatDocument results in study and analysis reports, point papers, and briefingsDevelop new missile defense concepts and assess feasibility, characterize, and assess the fundamental scientific requirements to realize new concepts, and document the resultsPerform mission and component analysis to establish capability and performance baselinesValidate developing solutions and mission needs. As solutions progress through development, iteratively assess predicted performance and test plans against operational requirements

Qualifications:

Master of Science or Master of Arts degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field.At least 12 years of full-time professional experience in a technical field related to missile defense and/or technical analysis of a complex Department of Defense (DoD) weapon system.Must have a TOP SECRET clearance, recent SAP experience desired.Excellent written and oral communication skills Must be able to work at our customer site on Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Desired Experience: 

Experience in orbital mechanics modeling to include analyzing how variables such as altitude, inclination and constellation sizes affect relevant performance metrics such as revisit time and access windowsExperience in laser systems performance analysis with a focus on acquisition and track systems, laser propagation, atmospheric modeling and turbulence compensation, laser lethality and materials performance.Modeling acquisition and track sensors to derive results for handover error estimates applicable to the cue of sensors and weapon systems downstream in the kill chain.Preferred applicants will have experience in one or more of the following areas:  conducting complex analytical studies, developing, or adapting analysis tools to suit needs, building reusable, well-documented MATLAB/Python utilities, assessing advanced concepts and technologies, and evaluating threat intelligence information as it pertains to new technology.Experience with MDA Systems Engineering processes.
