Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$60,000 - $115,500Provide engineering lead and technical support for all utilities systems assigned as part of his/her areas of responsibility and support to other areas as well as request or business demand. The four primary areas of engineering support include: provide subject matter expertise to utilities operation, optimization of utilities equipment, project engineering and equipment’s startup support. This role may support other process engineers on specific process improvement and troubleshooting as needed.
1) Subject Matter Expertise - Provide technical leadership, daily troubleshooting, and training for all unit operations within utilities areas. Responsibilities include:
Monitor process and equipment performance and assure they adhere to Business and Compliance requirements.Support and Lead Process Improvement initiatives within the Utilities Operations (Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Failure Mode Evaluation and Analysis & A3 exercise etc.).Author, Reviewer, or Approver of technical documents such as Qualification/Validation protocols, Change Controls, Deviation Investigations, Technical Reports, Process and Equipment Reviews, Asset Qualification Monitoring, Annual Product Reviews, Process Hazard Risks, Environmental Capability Assessment, etc.) as needed.Develop and monitor control systems for process indicators to identify and address equipment performance issues.Provide technical expertise for installation, operation, maintenance, and reliability of process equipment.Understand equipment/process capacity constraints, identify solutions, and develop business cases.Lead the definition, justification, and implementation of the technical agenda to sustain and/or maintain equipment/operations.Be accessible to operators, shift supervisors, coordinators, and regulatory groups for consultation on utilities technical matters. Participate in process team meetings and provide technical support on equipment related design, operational aspect and/or equipment related situations.Lead troubleshooting and investigation on unexpected issues leading to manufacturing interruptions or delays.Participate or lead root cause analysis sessions called to solve utilities operational issues.Daily evaluation of process control parameters, equipment trends and alarms, process incidents, daily utilities usages etc. Establish action plans to eliminate or significantly reduced incidents.Stay abreast of the latest technology trends, applications, and Compliance requirements.Coach and mentor of utilities COOP students.2) Optimization of process equipment - Work in achieving operational excellence in the utilities area by applying its technical expertise in continuous improvement of existing processes. Responsibilities include:
Provide utilities technical expertise to assist in the day-to-day activities.Apply first principle on process improvement and issue resolution.Understand equipment capability, operational control strategy, alarm management requirements and asset performance.Work on any change control proposals for utilities systems operations. Ensure significant changes, maintenance and other interventions do not adversely impact the qualified state of the equipment.Provide guidance on return to service requirements for equipment after interventions.Own AQMS (Asset Qualification Monitoring Strategy), FMEA’s and Control Strategy development for utilities systems making sure they maintain their qualified state.Identify new/better equipment or unit operations technologies and develop business cases.3) Project engineering support - Work with engineering organization in the execution of various stages of the project design phase for utilities systems. Responsibilities include:
Development of business cases, project charters, user requirements and change controls.Review process & instruments diagrams, equipment layouts, control systems, and design parameters to assure that design is acceptable for the process needs.Prepare cost estimates for capital projects including different alternatives to identify best solution and obtain the best value for capital.Development of equipment classification, COD (Critical Operational Data) including process ranges, alarms etc.4) New equipment process startup support - Work in collaboration with other resources to prepare necessary items to start up utilities processes. Responsibilities include:
Lead mechanical completion inspection of the utilities systems.Participate and/or lead the execution of commissioning activities.Collaborate with maintenance personnel to establish maintenance plans and spare parts list for equipment.Assure quality, environmental and safety processes and requirements are in place for validation and startup.Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering8+ years of previous experience in Utilities systems in the pharmaceutical industryPrior experience in Utilities system operations such as Boilers, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, HVACFully Bilingual (Spanish and English)Availability to support a 24/7 operation (provide call-in assistance if necessary).Additional Preferences:
