A role within Enterprise Growth Initiatives means helping Target build beyond the core and create future focus for the organization. You will be part of a team of hybrid thinkers, actively leveraging each other’s skills and knowledge, with a bias to deliver timely business impact. From exploration to activation, you will accelerate and validate new concepts that differentiate the guest experience and generate new revenue streams. Whether exploring new business models designed to meet guest needs or commercializing and integrating new growth back into the organization, you will ensure success by rapidly applying your expertise and fostering an entrepreneurial culture while leveraging the benefit of a large organization’s knowledge and resources. 

 

As a Principal on the Enterprise Growth Initiatives team, you will lead multi-disciplinary teams to strategically and collaboratively identify, develop, and incubate new growth opportunities for Target. This includes:  

Scope and drive structured project cadence by creating clear workstreams, developing and managing critical timelines and action plans, and creating recaps and presentation materials to communicate findings and progress 

Lead project teams in primary (qualitative and quantitative) and secondary (desktop) research to uncover opportunity areas based on macro factors and unmet consumer needs 

Host synthesis sessions with teams and stakeholders to uncover clear consumer insights and related business needs 

Lead and collaborate with teams to develop bold solutions through human-centered design thinking, concepting and ideation techniques  

Guide teams to define learning plans and experiments that test riskiest assumptions; oversee development of prototypes (in various forms and fidelities, from digital to physical) to evaluate the desirability of potential solutions  

Lead teams to translate evidence and insights into clear business cases, articulating consumer desirability, financial viability, and operational feasibility for executive decision-making; bring stakeholders along in synthesis of learnings and recommendation 

Maximize strengths and expertise of each team member while applying a wide range of methodologies as needed (e.g., design thinking, user journey mapping, low-fidelity prototypes, financial analysis); help continuously evolve and teach out the methods associated with strategy development, consumer insights, concepting and business case development 

Clearly communicate recommendations into clear, concise narratives and presentations for C-suite, board level presentations, and executive briefings; facilitate decision making with key stakeholders and functional leaders through clear written and verbal methods 

Collaborate cross-functionally across the enterprise and effectively influence without authority to drive business decisions and advance long-term transformation efforts; ensure key stakeholders are brought along through consistent communications and appropriately involved at key milestones 

Create inclusive, learning-focused environment; coach and provide feedback on ongoing basis

About You: 

Minimum of 5 years of work experience after graduate school in project leadership roles or equivalent of 7+ years of strategic project management experience owning deliverables and directly leading project teams  

Prior experience in leadership with a top management consulting firm, design innovation, research, creative agency, or in a Fortune 100-level corporate innovation group; ideally with subject matter expertise in digital, e-commerce, product or research 

Deeply critical and strategic thinker with experience leading outside-in thinking that drives new ways of thinking among leaders and teams  

Exceptional communication, written and verbal, particularly with PowerPoint presentations for executive audiences, with experience presenting to executive leadership  

Strong executive project management skills. Must be able to provide structure, be proactive, navigate ambiguity, manage stakeholders, hold others accountable without authority, and lead creation of appropriate professional collateral (e.g., decks, white papers, design briefs, RFPs, project plans, etc.)     

Experienced and well-versed in a variety of design thinking, consumer research and concepting methodologies and practices; emphasis on consumer insight research, concepting/ideation, prototyping and business cases  

Proven ability to navigate and influence internal and external networks 

Humility, learning mindset, insatiable curiosity, and thrives in ambiguity  

 

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
