The Principal Facilities Engineer leads complex engineering initiatives in collaboration with Electrical Engineering, Automation, and Maintenance Operations, providing technical expertise and direction. This role is responsible for spearheading efforts in equipment engineering, contributing to large-scale capital projects, and implementing strategic infrastructure modernization and expansion initiatives. The Principal Facilities Engineer is accountable for the end-to-end management of new technologies, including specification, design, procurement, and installation, to optimize capacity and efficiency for current and future product pipelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including administrative staff, cross-departmental managers, and external contractors, ensuring seamless communication and project execution + Provide expert technical support and guidance for plant mechanical systems, with a comprehensive understanding of facility HVAC and water systems, including boilers, steam systems, chilled water systems, and heated water interdependencies + Lead the design, modification, and upgrade efforts for plant systems such as compressed air, nitrogen, and process vacuum systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance + Ensure adherence to electrical codes and maintain advanced expertise in energy management systems, HVAC systems, temperature controls, and process control systems within a manufacturing environment + Oversee and drive facilities projects from conceptualization through construction, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives + Define priorities, establish measurable goals, and consistently achieve project objectives + Direct, schedule, and review work performed by external engineering firms and contractors related to equipment, facilities, and utilities, ensuring quality and alignment with organizational standards + Develop detailed engineering drawings and comprehensive project proposals for management review and approval + Monitor and ensure projects remain within budgetary constraints while delivering value-added improvements + Identify, propose, and lead facility improvement initiatives in alignment with organizational goals + Create and maintain accurate and compliant engineering documentation, including drawings, work orders, and engineering change orders (ECOs) + Plan, manage, and track the progress of all assigned projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational objectives + Support site-based cost improvement programs by enhancing product and process productivity, reliability, and efficiency + Prepare detailed specifications and cost estimates for major equipment acquisitions, ensuring strategic alignment and cost-effectiveness + Ensure that facility engineering documentation is consistently updated, maintained, and readily available to support compliance and operational excellence + Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to organizational success + Read/interpret SOPs to ensure compliance + Maintain up to date trainings + Other duties as assigned Education and/or Experience: + Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in an engineering discipline + Minimum of twelve (12) years in facilities engineering or related work experience + Building automation knowledge with Allen Bradley, and Rockwell + Pharmaceutical (CDMO) or FDA-regulated environment experience, preferred + Experience with Lyo, isolators, automation, prep equipment, and Autoclaves, preferred + Experience with clean utilities, purified water, injections, and clean steam, preferred Supervisory Responsibilities: This role does not have supervisory responsibilities, yet it may involve mentoring, guiding, and advising. Language Skills: The ideal candidate should have the ability to read and interpret various documents, such as safety instructions, standard operating procedures, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Additionally, they should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective presentation skills. Mathematical Skills: Proficient in executing arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measurement, employing whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. Candidates must possess a strong grasp of algebraic and geometric principles. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and proven capability in effectively utilizing diverse software tools to streamline the organization's daily functions. Essential skills encompass adeptness in manufacturing and internet software, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook. The employee may be required to work in an office, manufacturing, or warehouse environment. The office environment is designed for comfort and productivity, with room temperature settings maintained for optimal working conditions. It is common to hear conversational noise in the background. The pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is sterile. Therefore, aseptic gowning is required. Personal protective equipment (nitrile gloves, clean room socks, face-shields, safety glasses, aprons, steel-toed shoes and powered air purifying respirators) is necessary, depending upon the task at hand. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, confined areas, and refrigerator or freezer temperatures when working in a sterile environment. The warehouse environment is typically set at a controlled temperature but the employee may be exposed to refrigerator or freezer temperatures when retrieving materials. Some positions may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, elevated heights, airborne particles, electrical activities and vibration.
