Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will get to support various industrial, commercial, transportation, and water projects. This role is a hybrid role, ideally a person living near Charlotte, NC or EST time zone.
What You'll Be Doing:
Plan, direct, and oversee engineering activities including project execution
Reviews design documents produced by other engineering teams for compliance with applicable codes and owner standards.
Conduct Fire Protection Engineering inspection, studies, design, and complex calculationsComplete site surveys identify code issues and offer compliant solutions
Perform interpretation and application of local, state, and federal requirements, and regulations, relative to all aspects of fire protection and life safety
Prepare and present technical audits, reports, and exhibits
Design fire suppression system, fire alarm system, and prepare technical specifications
Ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
Occasional visits to construction sites (commissioning witness, As Built Verification/Generation) may require travel with overnight stay.
Estimate 10-30% travel.
With minimal support, carrying out and reviewing fire engineering calculations including smoke exhaust and evacuation analysis.
Ability to mentor junior staff
Review/Create Architectural Life Safety Code Analysis. Requires specific knowledge of the IBC and NFPA 101.
Review fire protection submittals (Shop Drawings for construction) for code compliance prior to submittal to the AHJ for permitting.
Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings. Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.
May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Possess certifications, training, and working knowledge of all ICC and NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 13, 14, 11, 15, 16, 20, 22, 24, 25, 2001, 70, and 72.
Experience in using Hydraulic Calculation software such as HASS or AutoSPRINK.
US citizenship is required.
Must be capable of safely navigating a large construction site, including standing/walking for long periods, walking over uneven terrain, and ascending/descending ladders, stairs, and scaffolds.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Ability to design fire alarm, fire suppression, and life safety systems using Revit is preferred.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or related field) and typically 8+ years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration is required.
