AtkinsRéalis are proud to be working at the heart of the challenges in the energy industry and within our Energy Networks team we are continually developing and growing within this area. Our team is currently delivering work across the Transmission and Distribution sectors across the UK as well as supporting other Energy and infrastructure business sectors such as offshore wind and HVDC interconnectors. We are in a position where we need to grow our team to enhance our capability and strengthen our service offering. As such we are recruiting a Principal HV Cable Design Engineer.

Reporting to the HV Cable Specialist you will be working within our Energy Networks team. Our offices are based in Epsom, London, Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow but the role is flexible and UK wide. Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You’ll enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices. You’ll be client focused – being able interface with clients, understand their needs and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.
Responsibilities:
Act as cable engineer in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.Deliver Concept design, FEED, feasibility and Detailed design projects and bids for clients.Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the scope, budget and timescale requirements to the satisfaction of the client.Produce or review the HV cable aspects of different projects including onshore cable projects, offshore export cables and interconnectors.Deliver bids and tenders within tight deadlines as part of a tender team and producing HV cable aspects of technical offers.Attend design review and Hazard review meetings and produce HV cable design packages as required.Attending site visits, FAT and SAT and commissioning as required.Strong communication skills along with teamworking attributes.Customer focused when dealing with customers, identifying their needs along with business development skills.Participation in Industry working groups such as CIGRE, IEEE.Development of external and internal relationships.You’ll need to have:
Qualifications:
Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.Chartered Engineer through the IET is desirable.Essential Criteria:
Experience in the design, manufacture and testing of HV cables for use in HVAC and HVDC projects both onshore and offshore.Experience in HV cable system design and ratings (CYMCAP).An understanding of IEC cable standards and CIGRE technical policies, its suite of technical specifications and supporting documentation.Experience of witnessing 3rd party cable activities such as test, installation, transport etc.Experience of large, technically complex cable projects.Experience of Working Groups and Technical committees such as CIGRE and IEEE.The willingness to travel as projects or clients dictate.Why work for AtkinsRéalis?
