The Principal Investigator is responsible for overseeing field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, reporting, and curation in accordance with quality standards, agency requirements and scientific norms.  This role involves budget management, proposal preparation, client interaction, and coordination with regulatory agencies.  Additionally, the position involves mentoring technical professionals and contributing to their professional development.

Responsibilities Direct technical tasks and processes.Offer expertise in federal, state, and local regulatory compliance.Coordinate with agencies and clients.Prepare scopes of work and budgets.Lead field operations.Author comprehensive technical documents including reports, research designs, and treatment plans. Conduct artifact analysis.Participate in professional organizations.Mentor and train junior staff. Qualifications Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.2+ years of supervisory experience in archaeological investigations, specifically Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, and Phase III data recoveries, artifact analysis, and report writing on projects in Texas.2+ years of experience in San Antonio or greater South Central Texas region, with a focus on historic and Spanish Colonial sites.Proficiency in Section 106 of the NHPA, Antiquities Code of Texas, and NEPA.Proven ability to direct and mentor field and lab technicians.Clean permitting history.Experience in full-cycle technical report writing.Familiarity with digital data collection platforms and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).Ability to work independently in the field in varying field conditions.Physical capability to perform tasks such as extended walking, standing, digging, bending, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.Flexibility to work within standard business hours, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with occasional overtime.Office location may be in either San Antonio or Austin. Preferred Qualifications Experience in archival research.Proficiency in faunal analysis.Leadership experience in testing and data recovery project.Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).Familiarity with the City of San Antonio’s Unified Development Code.Experience in bioarcheological and/or faunal analysis.
