Job Description Summary:

In the Ingredient Quality Department, we ensure the quality of ingredients for the best beverage brands in the world.

The Principal Lab Analyst works primarily as an individual contributor who performs complex testing of materials at a high level of throughput using the required chemical, analytical and/ or sensorial methodology according to quality guidelines, with limited supervision after training within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory.  Engage in daily contact with key laboratory and plant personnel e.g.  Lab Director, other team members regarding lab workload, priorities, and other pertinent information.  The role requires the preparation of detailed reports with recommendations; performs routine maintenance and safety checks on laboratory equipment and instrumentation.  Operate and assist in the evaluation, calibration and validation of analytical testing instrumentation.  Develop knowledge in area of expertise. Knowledge and understanding of general laboratory safe practices, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Quality Management Systems (QMS). Drives continuous improvement (OE) within lab operations to enhance quality and service while reducing the costs.   Recommends and executes with capital and instrument purchase projects.  The role may also require participation in research on and development of new and unproven methods for analysis and identification of ingredients, intermediates and finished products.

This role may require work time as early as 5 am and is on-site.

What you’ll do for us

Once the successful candidate has received appropriate training, they will be expected to perform at a high level and will:

Be familiar with required testing and processes within their dedicated area and perform the required testing and instrument calibration and maintenance to ensure quality data

Evaluate information to determine compliance with specifications or standards and interpret results

Work with Laboratory Director to ensure proper use of resources

Interpret databases for specifications, methods, and standards

Contribute to summaries and reports

May serve as a Function Lead within the lab

Qualification and Requirements

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND EXECUTION 

Perform basic and complex testing of materials at a high level of throughput using the required chemical, analytical and/ or sensorial methodology according to quality guidelines, with limited supervision after training, within an ISO17025 accredited laboratory.

Perform analytical analysis using gas and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry and other general or specialty detectors.

Perform in a multi-task environment where simultaneous testing will occur throughout the day to meet our customer’s needs.

Interpret data from routine analyses to validate materials meet specifications.

Applies a standard approach to record and interpret results, may issue reports with peer review.

Understand theory and application of instrumental analysis to analyze ingredients, syrups, beverages, concentrates or other substances, leverage LIMS systems for data collection, review and release.

Intermediate Field Specialty (e.g. Analytical Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Ingredients, or others); Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis.  Mid-level expertise with the ability to integrate advanced techniques and to apply the most appropriate techniques to a broad range of problems.

Demonstrated knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practices; Laboratory/Analytical Instrumentation, including instrumental theory, operation, maintenance, statistical analysis and ability to operate, maintain laboratory instruments; LIMS; Quality management systems while working safely.

Work independently but as part of the lab team to support our customers and direct support to an on-site manufacturing team.

Participate or lead method development & validation.

Review and authorize sample release.

May Serve as a function lead and/or process owner.

Engage in daily contact with key laboratory and plant personnel e.g.  Lab Director, other team members, understand lab workload, priorities, and other pertinent information.

Ability to communicate technical information both verbally and in written reports that is understandable by technical and non-technical audiences; to produce report of results and recommendations that is clear and concise.

Interpret data from routine analyses to validate materials meet specifications. Applies a standard approach to record and interpret results, may issue reports with peer review.

May create queries and build reports using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Word, PowerBI or other software applications. 

May prepare and present technical conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences.

Translate strategic visions into actionable plans, using knowledge of current business processes and best practices. Simplify complex information in a concise format that is appropriate for the audiences.

Build technical relationships.

Qualification / Competencies / Skills

Required 5 years’ experience in laboratory quality testing using chromatography

Working knowledge and experience with gas and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry

Required experience with a LIMS system

Preferred experience with Flavor, Fragrance and/or Juice ingredients

Preferred experience within a Manufacturing environment

Self-motivated and Agile

Intermediate use level of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

Required availability to work as early as 5 am

Related Experience / Educational Requirements

Must possess a Master of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry

5 years’ experience in laboratory quality testing, chromatography, spectroscopy

Use of LIMS system is required

Normal manufacturing plant/lab/office working conditions apply on-site. This position is subject to the hazards and risks of a food manufacturing plant and its working environment.

Work is on-site (not remote).

The lab provides on-site support to a plant, providing direct communication and action to support the production and technical staff throughout the workday.

Travel Requirements

The position is based in Apopka, Florida. Business travel seldom occurs.

Pay Range:

$82,900 - $112,200

Base pay offered may vary depending on geography, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position, is offered.
