Role description: 

Arcadis is currently seeking a highly experienced and well-rounded senior in-house lawyer to work full-time as Principal Legal Counsel joining our high-performing Legal, Compliance and Privacy team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide support to the legal function while driving the efficient and effective delivery of legal outcomes to the business. This is an opportunity to work with industry leaders within a great team. Role is open to candidates based in Australia.

Role accountabilities:

Carriage of reviews and negotiation for complex contracts and major projects (D&C, PPP, alliancing and hybrid models e.g. incentivized target cost); Carriage of claims, disputes and litigation (predominantly professional indemnity & public liability claims against Arcadis);  Providing technically and commercially sound legal advice as a trusted advisor to the General Counsel and all levels of the Australian business on a variety of topics such as contracts, disputes, risk management, employment, WHS, intellectual property, facilities management, privacy, compliance, corporate governance and other commercial matters;  Direct supervision and line management responsibilities including support and mentorship to your direct reports and accountability for their prompt, efficient and effective review of their deliverables; Identifying opportunities and leading internal initiatives with our Legal Operations Lead on innovations and improvement of existing systems, process and service to the business. Preparing, coordinating and delivering internal training on legal and commercial issues. 

 

Qualifications & Experience: 

Degree in Law from an Australian university or legal qualification which is recognised in Australia and current practicing certificate; Postgraduate qualifications in a related area is an advantage Significant and demonstrated experience in leading complex transactions and/or disputes at executive levels including major projects, construction, resources or engineering (8+ years PQE);  Sound understanding of alternative contract and commercial models and procurement processes,  Excellent written and oral communication skills;  Experience as a manager, mentor and/or supervisor of a team of lawyers and paralegals/law clerks;  Pragmatic and commercial approach aligned with Arcadis’ culture and values;  Well-developed interpersonal skills;  The ability to juggle multiple competing priorities during your work hours, while providing effective support to your immediate team;  Experience in working with people from varied backgrounds and cultures;  Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop new skills.  The ability to lead by example and carry out stewardship for the business (as a steward of WHS and safety obligations).
