As a Principal Marine Structures Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. As a leading provider of naval ship support and maintenance we design, build, assemble, maintain, and upgrade international warships, delivering through-life support across the globe, ensuring that the UK Royal Navy and international navies go to sea safely.
Building on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate we have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting exports of frigates the engineering team is actively working on other ship newbuild and life extension programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers.

The role
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating Marine and Structural designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support.
You’ll contribute and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle and provide technical support to key customers. You’ll act as a Technical Authority and have deep subject knowledge of an aspect of Marine/Structural engineering and have technical responsibility for the delivery of engineering outputs. Using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, 2D and 3D CAD packages. Contributing and leading to Design Reviews, working with Production Teams.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Principal Marine Structures Engineer
High level of developed knowledge and experience within your specialist area, including design development and solutions. Experience delivering technical leadership to product development. Experience supporting professional development/mentoring to junior team members. Experience supporting governance reviews of developed solutions to internal and external stakeholders. Experience within appropriate analytical software, shipbuilding, and operation and/or maintenance and leadership in an engineering environment ideally within defence would be an advantage.Qualifications for the Principal Marine Structures Engineer
Ideally degree qualified, but, HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in relevant field will be considered. Be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status. Either already UK Security cleared or able for achieve UK SC clearance
