Principal Mechanical Engineer - Massachusetts - Robotics

Our client, an innovative robotics start-up at the forefront of automation technology, is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge robotics technology and contribute to the design and development of groundbreaking products. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to bring products from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design, prototyping, and development of mechanical systems for next-generation robotics products. Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components with other subsystems. Drive the development of product specifications, design reviews, and detailed engineering documentation. Identify and solve complex engineering problems related to mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Oversee the testing and validation of mechanical components to ensure they meet performance, durability, and safety standards. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in robotics, automation, and manufacturing technologies.

Key Qualifications:

A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on robotics or automation systems. Proven experience in leading mechanical design projects from concept through to production. Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for 3D modeling and design. Deep understanding of materials science, structural analysis, and thermodynamics as they relate to robotics. Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and assembly of mechanical systems. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to approach challenges creatively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Experience in startup environments and an entrepreneurial mindset is a plus.
