Summary:

Tetra Tech’s Lakewood, CO office is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mine Closure Lead to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing aspects of mine closure activities, ensuring they are executed in a safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible manner while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will help manage the closure planning, implementation, and post-closure monitoring of our mining sites.

This position plays a critical role in the leadership of the closure group. The candidate will lead designs and implementation of the remedies and needs a background in producing and P.E. stamping final design plans and specifications for construction and construction management. Tetra Tech has a strong team and a great reputation in the mine closure market. As such, this position is set up to succeed with the current staff and will be expected to grow the team in the years to come. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, but the candidate must reside within 30 miles of the local CO office.

Your Role:

Provide expert advice on technical aspects of mine closure, including land rehabilitation, water management, and waste disposal. Conduct site assessments and develop remediation plans to address environmental impacts. Develop and lead the implementation of comprehensive mine closure plans for project sites. Provide technical and strategic guidance to multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, engineers, project managers, etc. Develop and implement field investigation programs that may include baseline site reconnaissance and investigation, soil surveys, waste characterization, water quality monitoring and to a lesser degree geotechnical investigations. Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of mine closure projects to ensure they are completed on time, safely, and within budget. Prepare and present project status reports. Prepare and submit necessary regulatory reports and documentation. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving legislation and industry standards related to mine closures. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Professional Engineer in at least one state and able to obtain licensure in others. Minimum of 15 years of experience in mine closure, environmental management, or related role with at least 5 years in a leadership position. Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale mining projects on time and within budget. Strong knowledge of mine closure regulations, best practices, and environmental standards. Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Exceptional leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of employees, clients, etc. Proficiency in relevant software and modeling tools (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, etc.). Experience with civil design using AutoCAD, surface water hydrologic modeling, and/or unsaturated flow/infiltration evaluations and modeling desired. Professional certification in project management (PMP) preferred. A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Target salary range:  $130,000 to $170,000.  The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
