Position Summary
Only applicants with demonstrated experience building production networks inside the AWS cloud (VPCs and Transit Gateways) and with strong knowledge of the supporting services such as Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing, Transit Gateways, ALB, etc., will be considered for this role. Equivalent Azure experience may be considered.
The Principal Network Engineer is a highly skilled and hands-on technical leader, responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the organization's AWS cloud-based network infrastructure. This role offers expert guidance primarily on cloud-based networks and secondarily on the Bank's Cisco and Checkpoint-based data and voice networks within the corporate office. The ideal candidate will utilize advanced networking technologies and emerging trends to promote a cloud-first strategy, collaborating closely with and taking direction from the Network Solutions Architect. Additionally, the Principal Network Engineer will assist the Senior Network Engineer in overseeing the daily administration and maintenance of the network infrastructure, ensuring compliance with governance, regulatory, and financial industry standards.
Effectively fulfilling this position requires an individual to be a self-starter with excellent planning, organizational and communication skills in a hybrid workplace. Success in this role will be defined as exercising independent judgment with little supervision, while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion. The focus of this role will be about 70% on projects and 30% day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. The ability to grow into a network architectural/leadership role is possible over time.

This role will have a hybrid work schedule in our Boston office in accordance with the Bank’s Hybrid Work Program. More time will be expected in the office to support onboarding initially.
Specific Responsibilities
+ In partnership with the Network Solutions Architect, d esign, implement, and maintain highly available and secure AWS networking solutions in collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Services teams ensuring compliance with organizational security policies and regulatory requirements.
+ Continuously assess and improve AWS network designs and configurations to optimize performance and cost savings.
+ Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to enhance overall cloud infrastructure and services to ensure the Bank can leverage optimal technology solutions to support the organization’s mission.
+ Responsible for assisting with the daily administration and support of the Bank’s on-premises LAN, WAN and telecom environment (primarily Cisco network gear and Checkpoint firewalls), monitoring the day-to-day work requests and incident (break/fix) trouble tickets, troubleshooting issues and ensuring periodic patching and upgrades are completed in collaboration with the Senior Network Engineer.
+ Monitor network performance and integrity.
+ Manage some vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing and renewal processes for support of networking equipment and applications.
+ Responsible for administering the tools and services required to effectively manage and monitor the data and voice communication systems.
+ Partner with User Support (help desk) to handle escalated calls and provide training for tasks that may be appropriately handled at the User Support level.
+ Participate in technology projects assuming the role of subject matter expert for network related aspects of the project.
+ Ensure detailed inventories of network equipment are accurate within the Bank’s ServiceNow CMDB.
+ Participate in regularly scheduled disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.
+ Provide 24x7 on-call support when necessary and carry a bank-issued phone to respond to off hours support issues.

Knowledge/Skills
+ Strong, demonstrated and competent AWS cloud network design ( equivalent Azure experience may be considered adequate ), implementation and support background as well as strong skills supporting a Cisco network environment for the on-premises environment.
+ Demonstrated strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
+ Cogent technical documentation skills.
+ Effectively create technical solutions from business requirements.
+ A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility.
+ Must have excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within technical and non-technical teams, adapting communication and presentation style for the intended audience and the ability to work and prioritize with minimal supervision.
+ Basic familiarity or a willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.
Education
+ B.S. degree with a Computer Science related curriculum or equivalent experience is required.
Experience
+ Current/prior experience building production networks inside the AWS cloud (designing, building elements such as VPCs and Transit Gateways) is required, (equivalent Azure experience may be considered adequate).
+ Strong knowledge must be demonstrated for supporting AWS cloud services (Route 53, ALB, NLB, GWLB, etc.).
+ 5-7+ years of network administration, configuration, and support skills in the AWS cloud environment, (similar experience within the Microsoft Azure cloud will be considered).
+ 3-5+ years of firewall administration, configuration, and support skills (preferably in a Checkpoint environment).
+ Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service, (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.
+ 1-3 years of telecom administration and support skills in a Cisco environment preferred.
+ Exposure to a financial services or other highly regulated environment preferred.
