GDIT is seeking a Principal Network Engineer to help support our Joint Service Provider Enterprise Transport Management - Next-Gen (JSP ETM - NG) program at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.
Due to the nature of work this role entails, telecommuting is not allowed and will require the employee to report full-time onsite.
How the Principal Network Engineer will make an impact:
Provide architecture/engineering expertise for network implementations, cloud environment integrations, project designs, and standards development, as well as onboarding new tenants
Provide administration/support for intelligent DNS routing between enterprise locations/data centers, as well as plan and implement upgrades (includes installation of new equipment)
Implement approved authentication and certificate management controls
Use caching (static html content) for the enterprise infrastructure environment (hardware, software, and configuration components) and supported tenants
Support deployment options
Configure self IPs, port lockdown, and network routes
Configure remote logging to Splunk
Adhere to change management processes and procedures
Troubleshoot, configure, upgrade, maintain, and monitor the load balancer network architecture (performance, configurations, traffic flow, application monitoring, CPU capacity/utilization)
Analyze network alarms and identify sources
Coordinate with on-site support personnel while troubleshooting
Use enterprise service management tools to initiate, respond, and track service requests
Create reports and analyze performance metrics
Develop processes/procedures and related engineering documentation for troubleshooting and quickly identifying issues
Perform reach back to OEM Vendors to de-conflict operational issues with known operating system bugs and security alerts
Partner with the information security personnel to assess potential exposure to vulnerabilities, identify mitigation plans, and ensure compliance with enterprise security baselines and standards
Evaluate modern technologies to optimize network efficiency and review/provide recommendations to improve the network
Inform management in a clear, concise, and timely manner of any customer or technical issues
Be responsive and decisive on adjusting architecture as customer requirements and technology evolves
What you'll need to be successful:
Active Top Secret security clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering or Equivalent; Master’s degree preferred +8 years primary role operating, troubleshooting, installing network routers and switches
IAT Level II certification in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M
One of the following Networking Certifications - Brocade, Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), Juniper (JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP), Aruba
5+ years primary role directly designing, architecting routed and switched networks up to and including enterprise sized networking solutions.
2+ years as senior or lead engineer in planning, designing, and building software defined networks
Demonstrated experience is a DoD environment
Configuring and installing various network devices and services
Monitoring network performance and resource utilization, trending, capacity planning
Use of current and emergent network design principles and protocols
Experience with network virtualization technologies
Experience with multi-tenant network architectures
Familiarity with a width variety network routing and switching equipment devices from multiple vendors
Scripting languages such as Pearl, Python, coding for network threshold events.
