Principal Packaging Engineer, Product Experience, Amazon Devices, Device Postponement Operations
We are looking for a dynamic, driven, organized, analytical and creative Packaging Engineer to join our team. This role requires an innovative thinker and leader to drive packaging designs for automation (DFA) across Amazon internal teams and external partners.

You will be successful in this role if you: lead large or strategically important projects (e.g., new device or system); passionately develop new packaging concepts based on existing and learned expertise in packaging materials, pack out automation, and supply chains; analyze material characterization laboratory results and design/implement operational test plans for rapid learning and iteration of packaging design and material specifications; deliver packaging designs, material specifications, system architectures, and strategic documentation; drive alignment across stakeholder teams with conflicting goals; handle escalations and mitigate complexity risks (deconstruct into appropriate simplicity); stay close to the ongoing operations and stay up to date on packaging trends, quickly being able to identify the best technical solutions that can solve problems for Amazon and our customers; resolve packaging issues relating to automation testing and on-going operations; and most importantly, have a passion for improving the customer’s out-of-the-box experience.

A qualified candidate will have a background in structural packaging development, functional and cosmetic standards, such as ISTA, and experience working with outsourced manufacturing in a variety of packaging technologies, including but not limited to flexo-printing, lithography, corrugated, paper pulp, thermoforming, and molding. The candidate will be someone who can articulate and drive considerations required to deliver the best overall design for the customer, distribution and manufacturing. They will manage complex package development, leverage supplier resources and successfully push process and material limits to deliver practical, impactful results. They will advance design, test and validate standards to meet changing logistical requirements, safely deliver product worldwide, and create great customer experiences.

A day in the life
In this role, you will troubleshoot and problem solve independently in an ambiguous environment. You will have high ownership of your work, as proven by a record of driving projects and strategic initiatives to their completion independently. At the same time, you will also need to collaborate with, and influence other packaging engineers, across Amazon Devices, to adopt DFA recommendations across common packaging designs. To achieve this, you will need to be motivated, agile, with strong time management and project management skills, and have experience working in a technical environment.
