Principal Philanthropy Officer Life Sciences and Biomedical Investments

Summary:  Reporting to the Vice President, Principal Gifts in direct coordination with the SVP, Chief Scientific Officer and Mission Research team, the Director, Principal Philanthropy- Life Sciences & Bio-Medical Initiatives role is responsible for identifying and closing principal level gifts and high-impact investments from high and ultra-high net worth individuals, family offices and scientific funding partners capable of 6, 7, and 8-figure donations and long-term partnerships to advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Therapy Acceleration Program (TAP), Beat AML programs, and other biomedical research initiatives.

Accountabilities:   

 

Revenue Generation 

Responsible for meeting and exceeding annually established fundraising targets through the effective engagement and qualification of prospects and obtaining commitments from donors 

Donor Development Strategies 

Manage and expand an active portfolio of principal gift capacity prospects and donors, high/ultra-high net work investors, venture philanthropists, venture capital partners and corporate executives, who are rated with an annual giving capacity in excess of $1 million, to advance LLS’s biomedical and life sciences research portfolios Maintain sustained weekly activities with self-directed focus on impactful and personal touch points and meetings, integrating executive leadership, the National Board of Directors, and mission and scientific research partners when appropriate to leverage their expertise throughout the donor/partner life cycle Serve as knowledgeable mission ambassador to educate major donor prospects about organizational impact and inspire them to make and enhance their investments in LLS’s biomedical research initiatives Utilize and leverage LLS estate, tax and wealth management partners, and donor advised fund account resources and tools to develop philanthropic solutions that meet donor/partner estate, tax and other legacy planning and impact objectives 

Pipeline Management 

Collaborate with Advancement Department Leaders, Mission Research and other Mission Department Leaders, Business Development & Healthcare Partnerships Department, Executive Leadership and Board leadership/volunteers to identify, cultivate and engage prospects with strategic activities directed toward outright and high-impact philanthropic gifts to advance LLS’s TAP (Therapy Acceleration Program), Beat AML, and other critical life science and bio-medical initiatives.   Communicate with internal Advancement partners and other departments on donor identification activities to ensure transparency, coordinated approaches and optimized donor experience Develop and document strategic individual cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donors and venture philanthropists utilizing Salesforce and other organizational tools

Education & Experience Requirements:   

Bachelor's Degree required 7-10 years of experience preferred in fundraising, sales, and /or history working within the financial sector responsible for providing solutions or services to high and ultra-high net worth individuals, family offices and organizations seeking to positively impact society Preferred experience designing and developing high-impact investment solutions and/or experience marketing and closing venture philanthropy or other impact investment programs  Proven experience in closing significant six figure, multi-year investments or donations First-hand knowledge and experience utilizing tax, accounting, and estate strategies, tactics and tools.  Ability to quickly understand and learn LLS mission focused programs and develop a basic understanding of blood cancer needs of patients, families, researchers and nomenclature to effectively communicate with prospects, donors, and key LLS constituents 

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 

Regional and national travel approximately 30% of time Periodic weekend and evening work Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizationAverage salary range is $106,808.47 - $156,607.92 , open to further discussion based on geography.Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
