Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Environmental Planner to take on a leadership role to support environmental planning for to support utility infrastructure maintenance and repair programs for our Northern California utility clients. Our California Energy Transition team is seeking an experienced environmental planner/project manager with at least ten years’ experience to join our team of multidisciplinary planners, biologist, and cultural resource specialists. In this role you will support technical planning guidance and maintain and develop positive client relationships while managing projects on schedule and within budget.

You will also work with existing staff to support the growth of Environmental Permitting, Site Planning, Wetland, and Endangered Species Services.

Role accountabilities:

As a Principal Environmental Planner, you will apply your technical/business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues. You will be a key leader of our California planning team who interacts with project managers, directors, and principals; as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team responding to client needs. You will also provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to mid-level and junior-level staff.

You will be a dedicated self-starter with a firm understanding of state and federal permit requirements and familiarity with local/county jurisdiction and California agency notification requirements and ability to develop strategic planning and permitting execution strategies for clients on larger scale projects and programs. As needed, you will need to conduct or lead site reviews related to planning projects. 

You will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills and attention to detail to provide guidance and senior technical review on project documents 

Qualifications & Experience:

Specific qualifications for the role include: 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field Minimum of 15 years of experience in the environmental field, with at least 12 years as a consultant Experience preparing CEQA (and NEPA) documents, and associated analysis, including Initial Studies and Environmental Assessments Knowledge of California and federal resource agency permit requirements, including USFWS, CDFW, USACE, California Coastal Commission, and RWQCB/SWRCB and an understanding of local zoning and land use regulations Previous experience and leadership in the planning, permitting, and/or supporting the construction, reconstruction, or maintenance of new or existing infrastructure (utility, renewables, water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.) Project management experience including task management, client coordination and financial management to support on time and on-budget project completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in planning, Geography, Environmental Management or related field Previous experience with siting and licensing linear utility infrastructure programs Experience preparing Land Use applications, including conditional use permits and/or experience managing or preparation Proponents Environmental Assessments (PEAs) or experience preparing CEQA documents for the California Public Utilities Commission

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
