Job DescriptionWe, at Skyworks are seeking an experienced, industry professional for the role of Principal Power Amplifier/RF IC Design Engineer at our San Jose Office, at the heart of Silicon Valley, CA. To help Skyworks in its mission, the Principal Power Amplifier design engineer will fulfil the role of an RFIC PA technical leader in the mobile handset ecosystem. The individual will be directly involved in the architecture, design, development, prototyping and lab-testing of cutting-edge wireless chipsets that go into leading mobile phone manufacturer’s products. The candidate is expected to drive design innovation in the field of RF power amplifiers, lead power amplifier modules in Skyworks product line-up and provide training to junior engineers. Job ResponsibilitiesPrincipal Power Amplifier/RF IC Design Engineer is responsible for design and development of RFICs for mobile handset applications, including Class A, AB/E/F, Push-Pull Differential PAs, Doherty, and other high efficiency advanced topologies. Designs will be Multi-Chip Modules, implemented in GaAs (HBT/pHEMT) as well as various IPD processes. Individual should have expertise in RF & 3D EM modeling of RFICs and familiarity with PA parameters such as gain, linearity, PAE, P3dB, input/output matching and stability. Expert level fundamental knowledge of Power amplifier classes like A/B/E/F/ Doherty as well as power amplifier load-line tuning is preferred. The candidate will work with a group of analog/RF IC design experts in development of cellular-band ICs that transmit, receive, and/or switch signal to or from antennas. The candidate is expected to collect, track and resolve any performance and circuit design issues. Candidate is expected to drive architectural innovation for industry leading performance and collaborate with other design centers. Candidate is expected to drive RFIC PA tape-outs for fulfilling product schedule and mentor/train other junior engineers.
QualificationsThe candidate must be an industry expert with transistor-level Power Amplifier design in III-V or Si-based process technology. He or she must be familiar with the basic device physics, have the ability to develop and use advanced linear and nonlinear models or simulation techniques and be able to translate between the model, simulation, physical implementation, and the measured performance of a device. Expert level RF and microwave engineering knowledge are required in order to optimize RF performance of the RFIC. This job also requires expertise with simulation tools, analog and RF circuit test characterization techniques and equipment. This person must have good communication skills and be able to work with more other design centers and junior engineers to resolve and debug performance issues.
Job Requirements BS Degree and 12 years’ experience required, or MSEE and 8 years’ experience or Ph.D graduates with 3years of industry experience. Proficient with amplifier modes of operation: Class A, AB, C, E, F, understanding of power amplifier design fundamentals. Industrial Expertise with RFIC design experience using CMOS/GaAs/SiGe HBT for PAs. Proficient in ADS and HFSS, and experience with design simulation tools or equivalent - APD, Cadence Virtuoso Expert with analog circuit design principles and basic EM theory Lab experience to perform IC / MCM characterization and debugging. Team player and self-motived to meet challenging product requirements and schedule. Experience of having delivered Power Amplifier RF front-end products in the cellular handset industry is preferred. Excellent Oral and written communication skills.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $126,500 - $241,700 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
