Position Summary: The Principal Product Engineer will lead new product initiatives, current product enhancements, and customer technical communications, in collaboration with adjacent UmbraGroup departments. This position is located in our Saginaw, Michigan facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Lead the development, analysis, testing and implementation of breakthrough ball screw and actuation technologies + Lead technical communication with customers and internal stakeholders + Generate detailed CAD models and product drawings considering DFM/DFA + Perform engineering analysis to ensure designs will meet customer requirements + Design, conduct, and analyze laboratory testing of new products + Work with design and process teams to identify, investigate and implement state of the art materials, design improvements and manufacturing processes + Support the continuous improvement of products by incorporating feedback from testing, field performance, and operations + Collaborate with our Foligno Italy facility to share and implement best practices + Advance UmbraGroup’s use of analytical tools and testing methods + Prepare and deliver technical proposals, seminars and papers to industry as a “technical expert” in the field of ball screws and motion systems + Mentor and train colleagues Requirements Required Qualifications: + B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; M.S. is a plus + Minimum 8 years of engineering experience + Minimum 5 years of ball screw engineering experience + Experience with solid modeling and drawing creation (NX Preferred), including GD&T + Excellent communication and presentation skills + Energetic and self-motivated + Team player willing to mentor and train less experienced colleagues + Ability to travel up to 15% + Due to ITAR regulations, must be a U.S. Person Preferred: + Aerospace and/or Defense Experience + Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards in a design and manufacturing environment + Hardware test experience + Familiarity with analytical modeling tools + 10 or more years of ball screw engineering experience + DFM/DFA experience Supervisory Responsibilities: None Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, set-up sheets, travelers, procedure manuals and government regulations.
