Overview

As a Principal Product Manager, Insights  & Financial Operations at Upstart, you’ll help bring best-in-class data access and business intelligence to our bank, credit union and capital market partners to help drive better decision making and program growth. Upstart has many sets of data about every aspect of customer acquisition, credit decisioning, loan origination and post-origination servicing of our customers and your role will be to convert these data sets to actionable business insights and help scale our lending programs. You will be a part of our Lending Platform team serving the ‘supply’ side of our business - the capital providers who fund loans for borrowers across a variety of loan categories. You will also support our Finance team enhance our internal financial systems and improve data accuracy and availability in support of financial planning.

While you will be focused on serving the needs of the capital providers on our platform, this role will be very cross-functional and will require close calibration with our more technical data engineers and analysts building and maintaining the underlying infrastructure. You will also work with our various loan product teams to help bring this level of insight across all our products - personal loans, auto loans, small dollar loans, home equity, etc.

PMs that thrive with complex data sets, working with a variety of business units and stakeholders, can bring clarity to complex technical problems and have experience with B2B analytics will be an especially strong fit here. You’ll be part of the team charged with helping lending partners take advantage of our unique technology to achieve their business goals. Our products range from end-to-end AI-enabled origination platforms to APIs that allow banks to integrate our technology into their existing systems and workflows. As a Principal Product Manager, you will be responsible for one or more portions of these products, including KPIs, strategy, as well as execution. You own prioritization, definition, and delivery of important features that affect all parts of the borrower and bank partner experience.

 

Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, USA

Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

 

How you’ll make an impact:

You’ll understand the needs of lending partners, capital markets and  to define and build new solutions to meet their needs. What are their business objectives and how are those decisions made? What data, insights and proposals help drive those decisions? You’ll define the vision and strategy for external facing data access, reporting and analytics. What should we focus on, why and when? You will partner with our technical data teams - analytics engineering, data analytics and data engineering - to ensure our technical roadmap aligns with our business goals You’ll partner with and support our Finance, Accounting, and Treasury organizations by automating their manual processes. Launch features on a regular basis in conjunction with the engineering teams. Bridge the gap between technical data analysts, software engineering and business stakeholders to drive clarity and prioritization.

What we’re looking for: 

Minimum requirements: 8+ years of product management experience Experience with product management or product design with a focus on software products and technologies Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience Preferred qualifications: Experience at a growth-stage company, tech company, or management consulting firm Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment, and to evolve product strategy based on research, data and industry trends; excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills Experience with product management and software development using an Agile development methodology Knowledge of multiple functional areas such as Product Management, Engineering, UX/UI, Sales Customer Support, Finance or Marketing; understanding of full-funnel conversion best practices (e.g. distribution strategies, funnel conversion, operational go-to-market) Experience building online finance products, and/or knowledge of the consumer finance market

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
