Principal Product Manager – Automated Driving & Active Safety

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Technical Center in Mountain View, CA or Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.

We are looking for an experienced and technically-oriented Principal Product Manager to lead the strategy, definition, and development of GM’s Automated Driving & Active Safety products (ADAS). Examples include strategic initiatives within ADAS architecture, mapping, virtualization, data collection, analytics, perception, and customer interface.

This role involves identifying market opportunities, driving product vision, strategies, and roadmaps within the context of GM’s broader objectives. You will play a key role in GM’s vision of a world with Zero Crashes and our transformation to industry leadership in software & services.

This is a highly visible position that will be crucial in shaping the future of automotive safety and driving innovation in the ADAS domain.

What You’ll Do

Incorporate data, research, and market analysis to inform product strategies and roadmaps.

Engage with Engineering to set strategy, metrics, and prioritization relating to ADAS initiatives.

Establish and prioritize product requirements to solve critical business and customer problems.

Drive product development with world class software, design, and program management teams to achieve key milestones. Define, track, and analyze key product metrics, user feedback, and performance data to measure success and identify improvement areas.

Serve as a subject matter expert for your ADAS product portfolio, providing guidance to internal teams and external partners.

Communicate product status and updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Evangelize and build consensus with executives, colleagues, and third parties

Mentor and develop other product managers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Stay updated on new technology and competitive products to drive continuous improvement, anticipate threats, and identify risks

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

10+ years of Product Management experience.

5+ years of ADAS or AI Engineering or Product Management experience.

Proven experience with technical product management and leading the entire product lifecycle from concept to introduction.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data.

Excellent presentation abilities to drive a concrete vision and rally the team.

Technical proficiency in problem-solving with complex software solutions

Experience defining vision and strategy for software products.

Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to drive stakeholder buy-in.

Experience working with data scientists and AI/ML teams on software development tools, pipelines, and release.

Proven oral and written communication skills; ability to become fluent in technical concepts and explain to non-technical partners.

Comfortable with complex and ambiguous problems and situations, and adept at identifying a project’s risks.

Enthusiastic and resilient in a constantly evolving environment where creative solutions are the norm.

If located in California, this position will travel to Michigan 1x per month.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Masters or Doctorate degree in related field.

Experience handling regulatory, compliance, and legal requirements.

Experience fostering innovation and driving change in complex organizations.

Experience shipping hardware or AI driven consumer products.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

The salary range for this role is $184,300 to $282,400. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
