Job SummaryBased in our Naval Electronics' Engineering Center of Excellence located in Burnsville, MN, this position will be the Project Engineering Lead for Flight Data Recorders and adjacent products. Activities include analyzing/modifying existing designs, leading new hardware development, mechanical and software components for Flight Data Recorders and other Avionics Components/Systems. This position will be required to achieve an understanding of the overall Flight Data Recorder System including how to make system trade-offs for optimal design, requirements decomposition, derivation, and flow-down.
Job Responsibilities Lead Flight Data Recorder Project as Project Engineer and execute the Project Plan to completion Possess overall responsibility for completing Design, Development, Verification, and Certification to DAL-A in accordance with DO-254 and DO-178 Review, define and/or manage specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable Coordinate engineering resources to keep development efforts aligned and on-track Control product configuration through design and development efforts Drive technical problem resolution and completion of activity on time and budget Serve as the primary Point of Contact between Engineering and Program Management Ensure compliance with documented processes for component and subsystem specifications and material requirements Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments Ability to define and complete technical projects independently Analyze designs for troubleshooting/resolving performance issues and for new business opportunities Supervise specifying and evaluating supplier components, subsystems, and services Support program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management, and the customer Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians, and support personnel to coordinate, recommend, and confer regarding technical activities and progress Attend appropriate customer and business meetings as the primary Engineering Representative for DRS Additional Responsibilities Technical leadership for engineering on Flight Data Recorder and other Commercial Avionics System designs Act as internal and customer subject matter expert (SME) for assigned system(s) Technical point of contact and lead, in preparation of complex small and large proposals and new business pursuits Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of experience Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge, specifically Commercial Avionics and DAL-A Compliance Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines
