Element has an opportunity for a Principal Project Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team.  As a member of the operations team, the Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision.  The engineer positions must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

 

Salary: $110,000 - $150,000 DOE

 

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple large qualification and allowables test programs (>10,000 coupons)
• Responsibility for technical review of quotations and technical guidance to Sales Team (and clients)
• Review the full work scope to ensure that it can be executed in a safe way and at a high quality standard and if necessary ensuring a risk assessment is available
• Review technical standards and requirements, and where appropriate write job specific test procedures, liaise with clients on all matters technical and schedule related.
• Provide technical leadership to the lab project team
• Arrange and supervise on-site witnessing by clients and representatives during testing
• Perform review and audit activities on jobs including technical contract review, technical procedure review / audit, test readiness review and job close review
• Provide regular progress reports for the projects managed
• Report and present results, closing projects and invoicing, create and archive job packs for each project
• Lead lab improvement projects furthering capabilities, quality, and efficiency.
• Train junior project managers, engineers, and technicians.

• Familiarity with national and international testing standards
• Familiarity with a wide range of supporting software tools, highly IT literate
• Familiarity with composite materials and processes (fiber, fabric, resin, prepreg, panel fabrication, machining, bonding, conditioning, testing)
• Familiar with a wide range of mechanical test methods, including tensile, flexural, compression, torsion modes
• Able to derive and modify complex equations from test standards (ASTM, ISO, etc.) for non-standard testing.
• Experience with data reduction of the following is a plus:
o GIC (ASTM D5528), GIIC (ASTM D7905), Mixed-Mode Bending data (ASTM D6671), Interlaminar Shear Modulus (ISO 19927), Composite Sandwich Fracture Toughness, Damage Tolerance, bolted joints (bearing and bypass), Fracture Toughness Fatigue
