AbbVie's Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) team in Cambridge, MA, invites you to join us as a Principal Research Scientist I in the Protein Sciences group. Your work will help develop transformative ideas driving our immunology and neuroscience therapeutic areas towards the clinic. Role Overview: As a Principal Research Scientist, you’ll be at the helm of early exploratory target selection, offering strategic guidance in antigen generation, production, and procurement. In this leadership role, your expertise will foster scientific excellence and collaboration while pioneering novel techniques in protein target design and expression. Key Responsibilities: + Spearhead activities in the early exploratory stages of target selection within the immunology and neuroscience therapeutic areas + Innovatively design and produce soluble and membrane protein targets with enhanced stability for functional studies and antibody discovery + Collaborate with protein vendors and Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to secure and produce high-quality antigens + Foster strong cross-functional collaborations with therapeutic area partners to promote the generation of innovative ideas and solutions that support organizational objectives. + Clearly and effectively explain research findings and strategies through scientific reports, publications, and presentations tailored for diverse audiences. + Contribute to scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. + Cultivate innovative problem-solving by generating original technical ideas and responding to scientific, regulatory, and competitive developments. + Mentor and empower others to publish and present research externally, evaluating their performance and professional development. Qualifications Qualifications: + BS with typically 14+ years, MS with typically 12+ years, or PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology or related field. + Extensive experience in early-stage biotherapeutic discovery, particularly within neuroscience and immunology therapeutic areas. + Proficient in expression and purification from various host expression systems. + Proven research excellence demonstrated through a strong track record of publications, presentations and scientific achievements. + Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional research teams, manage projects, and effectively communicate with stakeholders. + Expertise in navigating and managing relationships with different protein vendors and CROs, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines. + Experience working with multispecific biologics is a plus.
