Job Description AbbVie Process Chemistry is responsible for inventing and characterizing chemical processes and supporting the preparation of drug substances to enable toxicology studies, clinical trials, and drug product development for AbbVie’s pre-clinical and clinical candidates. We contribute to the development of innovative chemistry solutions and new process technology, resulting in the development of safe, sustainable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. AbbVie Process Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist II to Senior Scientist III who can drive the development of antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) drug substances supporting projects from pre-clinical stages through proof of concept. The candidate will develop processes in lab and lead or participate in project teams to develop conjugation chemistry as well as downstream unit operations (chromatography, UFDF, formulation) ultimately demonstrating via on-scale manufacturing of materials to support our clinical studies. Project teams interactions will include productive collaboration and strong communications with allied functions across analytical, engineering, small molecule drug linker synthesis, regulatory, quality and manufacturing. The candidate must be able to mentor and develop staff with novel experimental approaches to answer difficult scientific questions and may include supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities: + The candidate will participate and/or lead project teams associated with process development and characterization for new ADC drug substances. + Develop and characterize antibody drug conjugate (or other modalities) processes in the laboratory and translate them to scalable processes. + Lead, design and execution of process development and control strategies. + Proactively advise and share knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management. Mentor staff in troubleshooting strategic and experimental issues. + Author and review key regulatory documents, laboratory data, technical memos and reports. + The position involves multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, drug product development, and program management. + The candidate will encourage ideas for continuous improvement activities and initiatives within department. + The candidate will understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety and GXP compliance.  Qualifications + Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Organic Chemistry with typically 14+ (BS), 12+ (MS) or 6+ (PhD) years of experience. Candidates with less experience may be considered for other opportunities. + Experience in antibody-drug conjugate process development. + Proven scientific leadership; strong interpersonal and communication skills for facilitating collaborations and a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional process development teams. + The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of process development, control strategy development, regulatory starting material strategies, specification setting, QbD principles and tech transfer. An understanding of global regulatory expectations and experience with authoring development reports and regulatory filings is highly desirable.
