**The Opportunity**
The **Principal Scientist** role is based in our **Scarborough, ME** location within the IDDM Infectious Disease Developed Markets Division.
The **Principal Scientist** supports the Manufacturing organization by facilitating efficient operations in the production area, optimizing existing processes, and ensuring production goals are met. This role involves monitoring the performance of equipment, machines, and tools, and addressing equipment problems or process parameters that result in non-conforming products, low yields, or quality issues. **The Principal Scientist** also collaborates with Quality and Research and Development teams to integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area.
**What You’ll Work On**
+ Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
+ Leads technical activities for new or improved products or process, for current programs, next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.
+ Presents findings and recommendations.
+ Analyzes and solves problems from basic engineering principles, theories and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a major breakthrough in technology.
+ Understands engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques.
+ Recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and applies this knowledge in leadership roles in the company.
+ Incorporates business policies and procedures into task completion.
+ Understands the business needs of the company and has knowledge of the customer needs of our business.
+ Understands the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends.
+ Cultivates internal and external network of resources to complete tasks.
+ Serves as a resource in the selection orientation and training of new engineers and employees.
+ Leads project team(s), determines goals and objectives for the projects.
+ Mentors' employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance.

+ Serves as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations and advice on significant matters.
+ Acts as a spokesperson to customers on business unit current and future capabilities.
+ Monitors progress of departments or units toward divisional and company goals.
+ Monitors all costs associated with assigned organizational unit.
+ Monitors company-wide indicators such as market share and profitability.
+ Monitors industry trends and external environment in areas relevant to the assigned organizational unit. Develops and/or identifies new work processes that will have broad applicability throughout the company.
+ Contributes ideas for improving work processes and achieving organizational goals.
+ Investigates and solves problems that impact work processes and personnel in multiple units or departments.
+ Develops and communicates a vision for a major segment of the organization.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related technical field.
+ Minimum 10 + years of progressively responsible positions in a research development environment.
+ Very likely to have advanced degrees M.S or PhD
+ Practical Lab Skills with increasing knowledge complexity with experience
+ More advanced Problem –solving skills with experience.
+ Has good knowledge of science and the ability to apply more complex and advanced principles and techniques with experience.
+ Accountability/ Scope: Contributes to project plan. Responsible for more complex project completion. May be called on a SME for projects across Division
**Preferred**
+ Expertise in statistical data analysis, JMP, SPC and DOE methodology
+ PhD preferred.
+ Expertise in PCR based molecular technologies, sequencing, cell culture, purification, and analytical techniques.
+ Experience with standard analytical techniques including HPLC, FPLC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, gel electrophoresis, solid phase DNA/RNA synthesis, solid phase peptide synthesis.
+ Prior experience in aspects of molecular diagnostics, immunoassays, ELISA-based assays, and/or immunochromatographic devices

The base pay for this position is $97,300.00 – $194,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
