Principal Scientist-Viral Immunology
Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence Posted Date: Dec 31 2024 Key Responsibilities: We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Principal Scientist to join our Infectious Disease Research team with expertise in immunology and virology in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The Infectious Disease team is part of the Research Team within Vaccines/ID Research, which is one of the three therapeutic aligned research teams here at GSK. This position supports designing, executing, and analysing experiments to support drug discovery projects through to pre-clinical evaluation. The successful candidate will be responsible for running and leading preclinical in vitro/ in vivo studies aimed at exploring the HBV-specific immune and anti-viral responses, delivering a preclinical data package for validating immunomodulator(s) and/or antivirals for cure of chronic hepatitis B infection, and validating immunological and viral biomarkers to predict a functional cure. The successful candidate will have the ability to work across boundaries and collaborate both scientifically and technically in a global environment. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, with opportunities to learn and develop your skills in a range of scientific disciplines. • Design and perform experiments to characterise and progress novel treatments (e.g. immune-therapeutics, anti-viral, oligos, biologics) for viral infections, utilizing cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, high content imaging, molecular biology, and other laboratory techniques. • Develop novel approaches utilizing in-vivo and in-vitro models for evaluating immunomodulators and anti-viral therapies for HBV. • Provide immunological and anti-viral assay support for developing and advancing programs for HBV (using small molecule, large molecule, oligos, etc, modalities). • Independently execute laboratory experiments, conduct statistically supported data analysis, and deliver results in a timely manner to enable informed decision making. • Contribute independently to the direction of the work, providing clear next steps for the research. • Analyze experimental data and prepare reports for presentation to project teams. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support drug discovery projects. • Maintain accurate records of experiments and results in electronic laboratory notebooks. • Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature in infectious diseases to apply to new technologies and techniques for scientific delivery. • Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, patents, and scientific non-clinical reports. Why you? Basic Qualifications: • PhD with 1+ years’ experience or MS in in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Virology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular Biology) or related field with 5-7 years or more experience in a research setting. • Experience with a range of immunological techniques for evaluating immune activation and exhaustion, and virological assays, associated with chronic viral disease. • Experience and expertise in primary cell culture (including immune cells) and running immune assays using flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA and other end point analysis. • Experience in handling viral infectious agents such as HBV, and virological assays. • Experience leading in vivo studies and animal model development/characterization, and proficiency in procedures with mice (handling, dosing (IV, SC, IM), etc). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. • Self-motivated and able to resolve technical challenges and deliver consistent results efficiently in a timely manner.
