Principal Software Engineer: Model Signing and Attestations
Job Summary
The Red Hat Trusted Artifact Signer team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. Trusted Artifact Signer (RHTAS) is a part of Red Hat's Secure Supply Chain portfolio of products that includes Trusted Profile Analyzer (RHTPA), Trusted Application Pipeline (RHTAP) and Dependency Analytics (DA).
In this role, you will join a team of highly skilled Software Engineers and Software Quality Engineers who are responsible for the development, testing and support of Red Hat’s Trusted Artifact Signer product. You will lead the RHTAS efforts in the upstream Sigstore Model Transparency project, perform feature enhancement and bug fixes, and mentor other Red Hat team members in community involvement. You'll help define the architecture of new projects or features, and develop those from inception through to inclusion upstream. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a part of a distributed team and work both on your own and in tight collaboration and regular communication with other team members and upstream developers.
What You Will Do
Lead RHTAS contributions in the upstream model transparency community with new development work, features and bug fixes.
Coordinate with RHTAS team leads, architects, and other engineers on the design and architecture of our work.
Participate in peer code reviews, continuous integration (CI), and respond to security threats.
Ensure RHTAS compliance with Product Security requirements.
Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure that projects are thoroughly tested in accordance with the testing strategy to ensure the product satisfies the release readiness criteria.
Collaborate actively with all of our partner teams including the Engineering, Quality Engineering (QE), Documentation, Product Management, Support, Product Security, Software Productization and UXD teams to continually improve our product, processes and customer experience.
Provide mentoring and guidance to peers and less experienced associates.
Work with Red Hat's Global Customer Support team and partner support teams on resolving customer issues.
Build Secure Supply Chain domain knowledge particularly with respect to signing, verification and attestation of AI models.
Publicize the team's work through blogs, web postings, or conference talks.
What You Will Bring
Proven and demonstrable experience designing, writing, testing and delivering enterprise level software products
Experience working with open source communities and familiarity with upstream development practices
Experience with Go. Other programming languages, including Python and Node.js is a plus
Familiarity with AI model development
Solid understanding of cloud computing and Kubernetes
Professional level of written and spoken English language
Strong analysis, design, problem solving and debugging skills.
Be self-directed, and able to make strategic recommendations and personally influence product direction. The ability to direct not only your own efforts but also those of other team members. You must be comfortable with being entrusted with the timely delivery of complex initiatives independent of close managerial oversight.
The following are considered a plus
Familiarity with cryptography, including digital signatures, signing keys, certificates and key management
Familiarity with the Sigstore upstream project
Familiarity with the Ansible project and tooling

Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
