Principal Software Engineer

At Warby Parker, we’ve proven that businesses can scale, be profitable, and do good in the world. Now, we’re searching for a motivated Principal Software Engineer to join our 60+ person in-house Engineering team to help take this mission to the next step.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating world-class software applications that power Warby Parker day in and day out. We build most of our technology in-house (think: e-commerce systems, business systems, and everything in between). The point-of-sale system, called “Point of Everything,” that supports our 100+ retail fleet? The Prescription Check app that lets our customers renew their glasses prescriptions from home? The enterprise resource planning software that runs our entire business operations? We built them all—and more!—by listening closely to customers and collaborators alike (from Finance to Supply Chain) and by being relentlessly iterative. Project to project, working here is an exciting opportunity to build products at the intersection of medical devices, e-commerce, retail, and fashion.

What you’ll do:

Be the technical leader of teams designing and developing world class backend applications that power our iconic business Promote the adoption of new technologies that advance and evolve our product Tackle challenges of scale though solid engineering practices and creative problem solving Ensure your products are resilient and meet well-defined service level agreements with client stakeholders Lead code reviews and help maintain high standards of code quality Exceed quality expectations through a strong test-minded approach at every step of the SDLC Monitor your application and resolve issues and SLA violations quickly and efficiently

Who you are:

Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience 10 years of experience in professional software development Expert at building webscale applications Expert in a high level language such as Golang, C# or Java Expert in Databases and Data Modeling Expert in API design and standards Proficient and open-minded communicator (over email, in person, via carrier pigeon!) Proficient in agile work processes—you’re comfortable breaking down large pieces of work to deliver value incrementally Proficient in unit, integration, load, and other forms of application testing Proficient in system & process documentation  Demonstrated ability to deliver software projects with a high level of autonomy You are not on the Office of Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)

Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure Familiar with GoLang Familiar with web and mobile native application (iOS, Android) development

Warby Parker, in good faith, believes that the posted salary range is accurate for this role in New York at the time of posting. Warby Parker may pay more or less than the posted range based on factors such as relevant experience and skills, qualifications and location, among others. This range may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, this role is also eligible to receive a cash bonus and an equity bonus as part of the total compensation package. New York Pay Range$218,750—$250,000 USD
