Principal Software Engineer
The Team: The MAI recommendation platform team works on a unified system providing personalized content feeds for billions of users over hundreds of billions of documents. Now we are powering the feeds on MSN, Edge browser, Windows, and different scenarios including news, shopping, weather, finance, etc. We run the service across multiple geographically distributed data centers, balancing latency, efficiency, stability, agility and debuggability. We build the system end to end, including data collection with all the available data sources, model training infrastructure, collaborative filtering, document indexing, user signals handling with NRT pipeline, online recall and hosting various ranking models from our relevance partners. The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Software Engineer to join our Recommendation Platform in Microsoft AI. A suitable candidate is expected to have experience of designing and delivering reliable & scalable distributed services. The role requires quick prototyping, narrowing down design options to deliver on the vision in collaboration with a strong team of software engineers. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. **Responsibilities** + Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code + Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with engineering, data scientists and product teams. + Design, and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions in collaboration with teammates. + Design services with a strong focus on high availability and scalability, robustness, and observability. + Take end-to-end responsibility for the development, observability, quality, testing, and production readiness of the services you build. Design the system at scale for scenarios and canvases to be supported. + Iterate the service capabilities as new requirements emerge with service rolled out. **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. + 6+ years of experience of designing, coding, debugging and delivering large projects. + Experience with designing and building reliable, distributed services. + Experience developing high efficient program for parallel computing in modern multi-core system. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Fluent with C++. + Experience using LLMs and ML in engineering systems. + Experience on streaming data update and DNN model serving. + Background on machine learning and deep learning. + Demonstrated problem solving and prioritization skills. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
