Principal Software Engineer
The Core Engineering team within the CST Engineering group is looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to join our team and help drive the vision of creating a safer digital experience for every person and organization on the planet, which in turn promotes trust in Microsoft. In Cybersecurity and Trust (CST), engineers, analysts, investigators, data scientists, attorneys, and business professionals are responsible for many exciting projects at Microsoft focused on protecting our customers, and living out our values of Respect, Integrity, and Accountability. In CST, we: + Ensure that governments who request data from Microsoft in support of their criminal investigations through legal orders follow due process, striking a balance between fighting cybercrime and protecting customer data. + Actively partner with law enforcement and security organizations around the globe to disrupt bad actors who employ malware, phishing campaigns, IP abuse, technology-facilitated child exploitation, tech support fraud, and other means to target our customers. + Develop and partner with other organizations to deliver industry-leading security solutions in support of government policy and Microsoft ambitions, particularly in the Security space. You can help us achieve our mission. **Responsibilities** + Develop and support secure Cloud solutions leveraging Microsoft and Open-Source technologies across the entire ecosystem. + Innovate with team stakeholders to rapidly build solutions for effective and efficient analysis and investigative insights. + Investigate and evangelize technologies to help solve problems simply and efficiently. + Evangelize technologies that benefit the group and increase efficiencies in achieving mission objectives. + Provide mentorship to other engineers and team members to foster an inclusive and learning environment. + Embrace a growth mindset capable of growing one’s skills and knowledge to stay up to date with emerging technologies. **Qualifications** **Required/Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. + 6+ years of experience developing software using the Microsoft Stack, including using modern design practices to secure your software. + 6+ years of experience working with object-oriented languages like C#, Java, or interpreted object-oriented languages like Python. + Multi-platform, end-to-end experience across a wide spectrum of cloud technologies in Azure. + 3+ years of experience architecting, designing, building, and running services at scale using modern DevOps practices. **Other Requirements** Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport. Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under U.S. export control regulations, potentially under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or the Export Administration Regulations.  As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport. Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Preferred Skills and Qualifications:** + Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance + Experience architecting, designing, and building full stack solutions using modern Frontend, Middle-tier, and Backend technologies in Azure. + Experience using modern DevOps best practices, including automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment/monitoring (Git and Azure DevOps or GitHub preferred). + Experience troubleshooting and using failure analysis for live-site incident mitigation. + Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with others. + Curiosity with a desire to continuously learn and collaborate to grow yourself and your teammates. + Passion to learn emerging technologies and architect innovative cloud-based solutions to challenging problems. + Previous experience with shipping + Previous experience shipping containerized software using Docker or experience with container orchestration using either K8 or AKS. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
