Position Description:
Builds Restful Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) using SpringBoot, Java, and Python. Designs and implements single and multi-tenant data solutions, using SQL and Python. Builds scalable and robust data solutions for websites using Azure, Azure functions, and Azure Logic applications. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
Participates in architecture design teams.
Defines and implements application level architecture.
Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
Advises senior management on technical strategy.
Mentors junior team members.
Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing highly scalable multi-tenant data solutions for Web, Data Warehouse, and APIs.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Applied Computer Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing highly scalable multi-tenant data solutions for Web, Data Warehouse, and APIs.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing, developing, and delivering robust, efficient, and scalable database code and constructs with large datasets in Operational Data Store (ODS), using SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, MySQL Procedures, Informatica Power Center, and Python (for database ETL/ELT), Snowflake, and Cloud technologies; and performing SQL query performance tuning using JetBrains DataGrip, MySQL workbench, Informatica, SQL, or Python.
DE developing and supporting business critical applications within financial services and benefits administration environments; triaging and addressing production incidents to mitigate business impact and identifying root cause – Datadog, CloudWatch logs, and capacity reports; performing data analysis and modeling (logical and physical), using MySQL workbench, JetBrains DataGrip, Python, Datadog, or CloudWatch; and processing data and ETL/ELT using Python and Python libraries (pyODBC, OpenPyXL and PyPDF for Inter Balance Controls (IBC)).
DE applying Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices to database releases (automated deployments) using ECS, AKS, EKS, Docker, Jenkins, and Urban Code Deploy (uDeploy); applying Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices -- source code management (Git and Github); and driving epics, stories, and tasks according to project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Jenkins, uDeploy, or Docker).
DE defining, developing, and implementing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) design patterns; developing APIs to move data to and from in-memory databases to on-premise or Cloud databases using Springboot, Java, and Python; and performing in all aspects of the SDLC according to Test Driven Development (TDD) and Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) methodologies.
