This is a HYBRID position (three days in office) in our San Ramon, CA office.

What is the MosaiQ Team responsible for?

Franklin Templeton’s MosaiQ platform delivers a suite of tailored services for finance professionals, boasting a unified Data Access Layer supported by flexible APIs. This infrastructure grants seamless access to diverse financial datasets, customizable to individual client needs, contracts, and SLAs. MosaiQ's versatile factor modeling framework facilitates advanced portfolio management workflows, drawing on both proprietary and client datasets. Additionally, MosaiQ offers a managed hosting environment for bespoke applications, ensuring peak performance, scalability, and production support. In essence, MosaiQ provides a dynamic data and computational ecosystem, empowering users to develop insightful reports and analytics with confidence in data availability and infrastructure reliability.

What is the Principal Software Engineer responsible for? 

The Principal Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining a scalable Investment platform (MosaiQ) using Python and related technologies. They will lead API architecture and implementation, collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions, optimize database performance across SQL and NoSQL databases, and oversee RESTful API design and implementation. Additionally, they will work with DevOps engineers to deploy and monitor backend services, conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and stay updated with emerging technologies to enhance the platform continually. 

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Principal Software Engineer?

Designing, developing, and maintaining the scalable Data and compute platform (MosaiQ).

Leading API architecture and implementation for seamless integration.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Optimizing database performance and ensuring data integrity.

RESTful API design and implementation.

Deploying and monitoring backend services in production environments.

Conducting code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and staying updated with emerging technologies.

What ideal qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful? 

Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

Overall ~15+ year of software development experience of progressive higher and bigger scopes teams and projects.

10+ years of backend development experience using Python 5+ years in engineers lead and above position.

Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL database management.

Strong understanding of API design principles and RESTful API implementation.

Experience with gRPC and JSON/RPC protocols.

Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. 

What technology skill sets are critical to the success of this role?

Proficiency in Python development.

Proficiency with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.

Expertise in MongoDB and PostgreSQL database management.

Proficiency in Snowflake.

Strong understanding of API design and implementation, including gRPC and JSON/RPC protocols.

Experience with backend development frameworks and libraries relevant to the investment platform's architecture on Linux environment. 

Franklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary—designed to support the whole person and to recognize their time, talents, and results. Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. We expect the salary for this position to range between $180,000 and $210,000.
