Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Principal Engineer Aeronautical or a Senior Principal Engineer Aeronautical.  This position is located in San Diego, CA.  Up to 10% travel may be required to perform the statement of work.

A successful Candidate will support aerodynamic, performance, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and stability & control aspects across the full life cycle of the Global Hawk and Triton family of UAVs.  This includes development, design, analysis, modeling, system verification, wind tunnel test, flight test, and field support.  Tasks include support of typical Navy and Air Force DoD program milestones; PDR, CDR and FRR, and working with USAF and NAVAIR engineering.  Additional potential duties could include backup propulsion support.

The ideal candidate will have experience with a wide variety of classical aero analysis tools, aero stability and control analysis, wind tunnel testing, flight testing and data analysis, CFD analysis, proficiency in MATLAB, C/C++, and/or Python, and experience employing these tools in an air vehicle development environment. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills including presentation of analysis and technical report writing.

This position can be filled at either the Principal Engineer or Sr Principal Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications:

Basic qualifications for an Principal Engineer Aeronautical include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 5 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with no experience

Basic qualifications for a Sr Principal Engineer Aeronautical include a Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and at least 8 years of experience, a Master's Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD Degree with 3 years of experience.

Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Fixed wing aerodynamics experience

Experience programming in MATLAB 

Aircraft Stability and control analysis experience

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience to include the use of either CFD++, STARCCM+, or Overflow

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.

Active Secret DoD Security Clearance

Mission aerodynamic performance analysis experience

 6-DOF simulation experience

Working experience using Python, C/C++, Fortran, IADS, and / or Teamcenter

Flight test experience, CRM trained and certified

Wind Tunnel Test planning and execution experience

Experience using the Atlassian Tool Suite (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence) 

GIT repository experience for source control

CFD analysis experience, including meshing and solver techniques (Pointwise and Tecplot 360 flow visualization)

Strong communication skills

Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
