Job Description:

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Principal or Sr. Principal Field Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse personnel.   The selected candidate will be assigned as a F-35 Support Equipment Field Support Engineer (FSE) supporting F-35 Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Upgrade (MRO&U) operations at FRC-E, Cherry Point, NC. The successful candidate will act as the Northrop Grumman technical interface and on-site company representative to the customer in resolving issues arising from operations, maintenance, modifications and other logistics and engineering support activities involving F-35 support equipment. Candidate must be willing to accompany our customer on CONUS and OCONUS Deployment Assignments of varying duration if required.

The candidate will serve as an integrated team member and will act as a Support Equipment Subject Matter Expert (SME) or an emerging authority who has the skill set to accomplish troubleshooting and analysis of F-35 Support Equipment anomalies.

Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements to products in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Conducts technical training and product briefing with customers, vendors, and company representatives. Acts as local on-site representative to customers organization.

In this role, selected candidate will be expected to: 

Be a self-starter, work without direct supervision.

Integrate into a high tempo military service depot production operational environment.

Provide engineering and support equipment maintenance guidance to military and civilian maintainers and depot technicians and engineers with confidence and authority.

Coordinate with item managers, engineers, customers and suppliers to resolve equipment issues involving safety, usability, reliability and availability.

Review engineering data to determine correct support equipment configuration and to identify or help define design deficiencies.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, fault isolation, technical data, and other available engineering data as well as analyze support equipment issues.

Document maintenance activities, collate data to identify emerging failure trends and provide recommendations to reduce equipment down time, improve maintenance practices, and advise on maintenance tasks.

Identify technical issues and recommend solutions to support the F-35 engineering disposition process and technical data updates.

Manage and track multiple engineering and logistic support activities, and provide periodic status to customers and program management team.

Provide authorized engineering products to supplement published engineering technical data.

Combine engineering knowledge with real world maintenance experience.

Must be knowledgeable of industrial and aircraft maintenance safety standards.

Conduct training and provide product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives.

Support program technical interchange meetings and program plans development relating to problem analysis, engineering dispositions, and in-house technical support.

Have good interpersonal and communication skills and engage with military service maintainers on a regular basis to resolve maintenance issues that would otherwise lead to equipment downtime.

Work any shift, weekends, overtime and holidays, and if necessary, travel on Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY's) to support F-35 program requirements.

Basic Qualifications: 

Principal Field Engineer: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED and 9 years of support equipment maintenance experience.  Will consider a bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years related support equipment maintenance; or a master's degree with 3 years of related support equipment maintenance.

Sr. Principal Field Engineer: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED and 12 years of support equipment maintenance experience.  Will consider a bachelor's degree and minimum of 8 years related support equipment maintenance; or a master's degree with 6 years of related support equipment maintenance.

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must have and be able to maintain a DOD Secret security clearance.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Principal - Preferred Qualifications: 

3 years of F-35 support equipment maintenance experience.

Prior Field Support or military experience.

Knowledge of the design of mechanical or electrical military aircraft subsystems.

Knowledge in training others in the use of military aircraft ground support equipment.

Familiarity with DoD maintenance manuals and military standard maintenance practices.

Logistics data management experience.

Knowledge in F-35 Maintenance Information/Logistics Systems (ALIS, LSEMS, and JDL).

Knowledge in Inventory Management and Table of Allowance (ToA) establishment/review.

Knowledge in calibration management.

Working knowledge of engineering tools such as CATIA, VAS, VA, PDM and JEDI.

Sr. Principal - Preferred Qualifications: 

7 years of F-35 support equipment maintenance experience.

Prior Field Support or military experience.

Experience in the design of mechanical or electrical military aircraft subsystems.

Experience training others in the use of military aircraft ground support equipment.

Familiarity with DoD maintenance manuals and military standard maintenance practices.

Logistics data management experience.

Experience in F-35 Maintenance Information/Logistics Systems (ALIS, LSEMS, and JDL).

Experience in Inventory Management and Table of Allowance (ToA) establishment/review.

Experience in calibration management.

Working knowledge of engineering tools such as CATIA, VAS, VA, PDM and JEDI.

Salary Range: $78,700.00 - $118,100.00Salary Range 2: $98,100.00 - $147,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
