The team builds high-quality products and services to ensure the health and reliability of LinkedIn at scale. Our products empower LinkedIn engineers to deliver value to members at a high velocity and without defects. In addition, our metrics have high visibility across R&D and are leveraged by the lines of business to drive long-term strategy and investment in their organizations.
As a Principal Staff Software Engineer on the Validation Engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction and development of cutting-edge validation and resilience infrastructure, in addition to shaping the strategy and vision of our organization as LinkedIn’s business and technology landscapes evolve and shift. You will work closely with engineers and partners from all parts of the company, from product to infrastructure and more.
Responsibilities:Contribute to LinkedIn validation strategy. Devise and continuously improve an end to end validation strategy for all of Engineering, with the mission to prevent change based impactWork with teams in Infrastructure Eng, Product Eng, and all auxiliary engineering teams to ensure that while LinkedIn’s change velocity is high, it doesn’t impact members, customers, partners and rest of LI employeesDrive a cohesive validation and resilience platform strategy such that all of LinkedIn engineering gets the benefits without the need to explicitly onboard, or change their current way of functioning. Keep customer overload minimal.Bring a fresh perspective to the current methodologies, advocate for rethinking and challenging the methodologies, and work w/ industry peers to adapt and build a platform that brings LinkedIn high change velocity with high resilience and safety.Advise management and leaders both in the org, and in peer orgs across Engineering, to strategically achieve long term initiatives with minimal resistance, high velocity, and well reasoned solutions that are both long lasting, and resilient to long term company directional changes.Oversee current areas of resilience and validation to connect the dots between active impact (incidents) and the areas of investment where the said impact could be prevented.Represent the resilience and validation organization in technical leadership forums where this role is seen as the technical leader for all things validation and resilience.Understand stack, reason about details, and challenge the status quo. Put to use this understanding to leverage, build or buy solutions that are well integrated into the accepted methodologies, such that everything works within the system, and not a bolt on.Work with leadership and management to grow and hire talent for the mission we want to achieve, the platforms we want to build and the results we want to see.Advocate for acceleration of initiatives, find creative ways to both avoid and remove blockers to progress, and ensure broad communication in case of timeline or directional slips.Actively design, code and work with Engineering teams to leverage, build or integrate external systems to achieve the mission and strategy.Actively review architecture, design and code of Engineers in the org to help raise craft, avoid misdirection and pitfalls, and achieve strategic and tactical goals w/ high velocity.
Basic Qualifications:BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience7+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions7+ years of experience programming in object-oriented languages such as C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, Python, Scala5+ years of experience as an architect, or technical leadership positionHands-on experience developing large-scale distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications:MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline10+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 5 years of experience in a technical leadership position10+ years of experience in an object-oriented programming language such as C/C++, Java, Go, Rust, Python5+ years of experience building large-scale compute infrastructure, and distributed systemsDemonstrated understanding of operating system fundamentals, container technologies, and systems knowledge.Experience working in large environments with terabytes of data.Experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures.Experience with strategic planning, executing on a long term roadmap, team development and scaling processes to support business growth.Experience working with AI and Data Scientists teams.
