The Principal Engineer may assume project management responsibility for large, complex projects. The Principal Engineer serves as a technical expert in their area of expertise on engineering projects. The Principal Engineer provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff supporting assigned projects by assigning projects to other Engineers, monitoring the progress of all assigned projects, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
What You Will Do:
Plan, conduct and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving large complex projects including, but not limited to; new and existing single- and multi-story buildings, pipe racks and industrial manufacturing supports and essential facility equipment anchorages. Applies conventional knowledge in the field of structural engineering. Review project plans to understand the scope, schedule and assigned work. Prepare written documents, reports and presentations for review by an experienced engineer or engineering manager. Develop understanding of the technical requirements and challenges of assigned projects and provide suggested opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency on assigned projects, in day-to-day job tasks, amongst team members, and across the business unit. Track and accurately report hours spent on all projects Work with individuals at all levels, provide input to reports and other technical deliverables, execute multiple assignments, meet agreed deadlines, and adjust to changing client demands. Perform Quality Assurance on project deliverables. Assists Project Manager with developing workload estimates, schedules, and budgets. Create and/or peer review detailed 3D computer models used to analyze more complex buildings and structures. Maintains an active awareness of technical, business and management developments affecting present and potential customers and communicates this information promptly to management. Serve as mentor/coach to mid-level engineers and actively hone technical skills in others.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering is required. Relevant Master of Science/Engineering preferred, however, equivalent experience in lieu of the advanced degree will be considered. 10+ years of relevant professional experience. State of California Professional Engineer License (P.E.)Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of latest building codes (IBC, CBC, ASCE 7) and material standards (AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS). Expertise with common structural building systems (gravity and lateral) and materials (steel, concrete, masonry and wood). Familiar with popular structural engineering software (ETABS, SAP2000, RISA-3D). Understands Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and their significance to the business and takes action to drive results amongst business unit. Ability to utilize established rapport and role as Subject Matter Expert (SME) with existing customers to identify and consistently generate new business opportunities. Ability to coach others on development and customer intimacy and new opportunities. Must understand business goals and hold themselves and team members accountable for keeping commitments. Seeks feedback and utilizes root cause analysis to improve performance. Ability to demonstrate independent, objective, open-minded thinking with strong attention to detail and sound judgment. Must be an effective multi-tasker utilizing proficient time management skills. Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.It Would Be Nice If You Have:
Experience with HCAI (OSHPD) a plus. State of California Structural Engineer License (S.E.) preferred.Salary Range: $140-150k
