Job Description
The Prior Authorization Specialist is key to department success because their expertise in arranging timely and accurate referrals and obtaining pre-authorizations from insurance companies allows our patients to quickly access the important treatment they need. The specialist receives and processes prior authorizations required for treatment, obtains insurance pre-authorization for patients, and re-authorization of additional treatment. They ensure insurance carrier documentation requirements are met, efficiently manage correspondence with the clinical team and insurance carriers, and work in collaboration with the entire revenue cycle team to improve processes and prevent financial toxicity for our patients. The specialist also maintains appropriate reports to accommodate transitioning patient and payer needs.
ResponsibilitiesReceive and process prior authorizations required for treatment.Obtain insurance pre-authorization for patients and re-authorization of additional treatment.Ensure insurance carrier documentation requirements are met.Efficiently manage correspondence with the clinical team and insurance carriers.Work in collaboration with the entire revenue cycle team to improve processes and prevent financial toxicity for our patients.Maintain appropriate reports to accommodate transitioning patient and payer needs.Essential Skills2 years of prior authorization or medical billing experience preferred.Experience in heads down, detail-oriented positions.Basic computer skills.EMR data entry experience.Attention to detail.Exceptional communication skills.Great time management boundaries.Ability to create and maintain efficient processes.Strong attention to detail.Positive attitude.Understanding the impact of work on patient outcomes.Additional Skills & QualificationsMedical terminology knowledge is nice to have.Enjoyment of heads down work with minimal face-to-face patient interaction.Experience in medical, administrative, healthcare, patient scheduling, patient registration, medical scheduling, healthcare insurance, medical insurance, insurance denials, medical reception, and patient coordination.Work Environment
The position operates Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. You will work with a team of other Prior Authorization Specialists at a business office located in downtown Salem. The work environment is supportive and collaborative, focused on helping patients receive the care they need.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.15 - $24.01/hr.
