Private Equity Fund Accountant

The Fund Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information, lead monthly Fund close processes, identify and implement efforts to improve Fund close processes, and maintain appropriate accounting control procedures. The position would benefit from understanding consolidation and equity method accounting for private equity funds.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Prepare financial statements and perform monthly close under GAAP consolidation and equity method of accounting for private equity funds.  This will require coordinated effort with other Fund Accountants and Portfolio Analysts, and may require coordinated efforts with property accountants, outside managers, and software providers.

Compile and analyze financial information, prepare journal entries, and document business transactions.

Prepare investor and lender level reports, including quarterly and bi-annual Fund reports

Prepare Fund cash flow projections and analyses to monitor cash needs, including LOC draws and pay downs

Assist with Fund upper tier entity and sold property financials as needed. 

Complete Fund upper tier entity bank account reconciliations. 

Assist with developing and maintaining financial databases to improve the Fund close processes, including the monthly financial statement process.   

Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.

Maintain and implement improvements to accounting control procedures.

Prepare annual audit reports and serve as primary contact for external auditors and tax preparers.

Assist with annual review for impairments.

Assist with providing information internally to ensure bank accounts, property codes, commitments, renovation funding, and other information for newly acquired properties is setup timely and accurately.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting; strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections

Knowledge of financial and accounting software applications

Proficiency with simple analytical and presentation tools (e.g. Excel pivot tables, Access database queries, graphing, PowerPoint, etc.) or demonstrated ability to learn such tools very quickly

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization

Must have strong verbal & written communication skills

Must have superior interpersonal skills; ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful, mature, flexible

Must be resourceful and well organized

Must be flexible, able to manage multiple priorities and able to shift resources and priorities as required

Must be able to work in a general office environment

Education and Background:

Bachelor degree, or equivalent experience in Accounting or related discipline

Minimum 2 years of accounting experience

Successful completion of CPA certification

Experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm is preferred

Experience in Investment Accounting preferred
