Job Summary

The Omnicell Automation Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for maintaining all unit-dose medications required for daily dispensing from Omnicell automation equipment. This role involves preparing and maintaining automation equipment for daily use, performing advanced troubleshooting, maintaining optimal medication inventory levels, and reviewing and maintaining reports. The Automation Pharmacy Technician II engages with various levels of customer service by identifying and addressing customer concerns and reporting to the Pharmacy Services Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Perform automation tasks accurately and in compliance with prescribed guidelines. Follow procedures for the safe handling of hazardous drugs when handling medications. Identify and order medications to maintain optimal inventory levels. Perform cleaning, maintenance, and optimization of automation equipment as required. Monitor and order consumable supplies necessary for equipment operation. Conduct advanced troubleshooting and prescribed maintenance of automation equipment; escalate unresolved issues to the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Communicate effectively with the Pharmacy Services Manager and customers to ensure proactive, solution-oriented problem identification and resolution. Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering customer-focused support with professionalism, quality, and responsiveness. Act as a liaison between Omnicell and the customer to address concerns. Orient and train per diem employees, ensuring completion of all required documentation and compliance with Pharmacy Services procedures and policies. Promote and optimize customer satisfaction by serving as a skilled resource (subject matter expert), providing on-site or remote support. Maintain fiscal responsibility for work-related expenses, including timekeeping, per diem employees, and consumable supplies. Adhere to the procedures, policies, and guidelines established by the customer facility. Maintain state and/or national credentials to meet established guidelines. Act as a resource or subject matter expert for Omnicell team members, providing training and support either on-site or remotely to ensure optimal workflow.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Strong organizational skills; accurate, reliable, and efficient. Demonstrated customer-facing and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work with mechanical equipment. Proficiency in computer hardware and PC Windows environments.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. Current and active Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License/Registration Two years of experience in a related field. Working knowledge of pharmacy automation.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Active Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT): PTCB or ExCPT certifications accepted. Advanced troubleshooting skills for automation devices. Expertise as a subject matter expert (SME) within the Pharmacy Services department. Proficiency in personal protective equipment (PPE) use and hand hygiene techniques. Working knowledge of sterile environment requirements. Familiarity with the safe handling of hazardous medications.

Work Conditions

Pharmacy environment. Ability to stand for several hours at a time. Potential exposure to hazardous drugs. Ability to lift 25–30 lbs.
