PRN Crisis Assessment Clinician, Emergency Services at GBMC - Towson, MD

This position is being recruited and hired by Sheppard Pratt Solutions on behalf of Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). As the largest nonprofit provider of behavioral healthcare in the nation, Sheppard Pratt teams with healthcare systems across the country so they can provide the highest quality acute psychiatric services in their community.

This role will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide emergency psychiatric services to adults and children who present for evaluation to the GBMC emergency department.  The Crisis Assessment Clinician will provide crisis intervention and risk assessment to evaluate for service and level of care needs.  The role must have experience working independently, while also willing to collaborate with other team members (i.e. psychiatrist, nursing, medical providers, other behavioral health staff) to achieve patient care goals.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

Provides a comprehensive psychiatric assessment and intervention, including a mental status examination, diagnostic summary, and level of care treatment recommendations for patients with behavioral health diagnosis, including all mental health and substance use, in the emergency departments Assesses patient needs and formulates collaborative treatment recommendations; maintains therapeutic milieu to provide safe environment for crisis stabilization; Efficiently and effectively mobilizes resources to support hospital staff, patients and families through the ED duration Develops a care and disposition plan based on comprehensive assessment, in consultation with the ED physician and other providers. Utilizes crisis intervention, short term counseling, psycho-education, advocacy, and referral skills to implement care plan Proactively communicates with physicians and care teams and serves as a resource to physicians on behavioral health matters. Works with patients, families and community agencies to arrange behavioral health aftercare and services for patients Develops significant population cultural competencies, ensuring services and interventions address the needs of the market demographic and are sensitive to cultural and ethnic practices and beliefs Develops and participates in educational programs that benefit patients, families and staff Develops and maintains significant knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues impacting patient care, including mental health commitment procedures, advanced directives, child abuse, and elder abuse Completes accurate clinical records including intakes, assessments, treatment plans and updates, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other information in a timely manner. Coordinates with law enforcement and Children's Protective Services to complete legally mandated reports in situations of suspected child abuse or neglect, child sexual abuse, adult and elder abuse and neglect, and domestic or interpersonal violence. Models and maintains consistent, proactive, professional communications with colleagues and staff Manages time efficiently and effectively. Demonstrates initiative and follow-through on tasks Adheres to confidentiality and compliance regulations in all patient affairs Meets all requirements for continuing education in field of specialty and all department-based competencies Participates in Process Improvement efforts in order to meet the needs of behavioral health patients more effectively and efficiently

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Behavioral health clinician with Master’s Degree in social work, mental health or other related field; corresponding licensure preferred. At least 2 years of recent clinical behavioral health experience in a crisis intervention setting, physician’s office, clinic, hospital, emergency services, or other equivalent experience. Experience with use of evidence-based practices in mental health and substance abuse. Graduation and training from an accredited graduate program; licensure eligible preferred
