PRN Echo Tech
Overview Produces two or three dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of heart and related structures for use by Physician in diagnosis of heart disease and study of heart by performing the following duties. May be required to work flexible hours. Participates in the on-call roster. Performs echocardiographic examinations, assuming responsibilities for the quality of the examination and using clinical judgment to determine the need for additional testing protocols. Assess, prepare and perform echocardiographic examinations (M-mode, 2 or 3 dimensional Doppler, transesophageal and stress). Provide for emotional support, physical comfort and safety of patients and visitors. Maintains equipment and area in working condition. Assists with other duties as assigned. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs echocardiograms per standard imaging protocol, measures per ASE standards, provides appropriate and adequate procedures accurately providing high quality safe patient care. Actively working consistently in Adult Echo/Stress/TEE/Call Coverage which may include some pediatric Recognizes arrhythmias and/or takes appropriate action by notifying physician if EKG reads abnormal, acute MI, complete heart block, wide QRS, tachycardia or heart rate greater than 140. Assess the quality of electrocardiographic and echocardiography recordings and corrects deficiencies whenever possible. If unable to correct deficiencies, documents on the graphic recording. Provides the physician with technical comments of diagnostic findings upon completion of the echocardiogram and reviews and discusses discrepancies of technical comments. Documents patient and procedural information in the patient medical record completely including patient history form. Makes sure all charges are complete with 98% accuracy. Educates the patient and family (as applicable) about the procedure and documents the process in the patient record. Responds appropriately in emergency situations. Utilizes equipment according to established procedures and refers to manuals, as needed. Properly notifies coordinator/manager of equipment requiring repair, notifies company and processes appropriate paperwork. Ensures inventories and medical supplies are ordered or lets appropriate staff member know when supplies are low. Assists with the orientation of new personnel and documents on orientation record. Assists with data collection for the SQI program. Attends minimum 70% of dept. educational programs and 70% of staff meetings. Attends all mandatory in-services or schedules makeup sessions. Assumes personal responsibility for own continuing education in order to maintain current knowledge in area of responsibility. Takes own initiative to maintain current CPR certification. Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent Associate Degree and/or Bachelor’s Degree, from an accredited program, preferred Certification/Licensure CPR Certification RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) by the ARDMS Board or RCS by the CCI Board registered or registry eligible. Must obtain RCS registration in adult echo within 1 year Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
