PRN Registered Nurse (RN) Specialist – Endoscopy

Specially trained gastroenterologists and general surgeons perform endoscopic procedures at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure used to help physicians more thoroughly explore internal areas of the body, such as the colon, esophagus and small bowel. Endoscopy RNs staff the pre-surgical area, 3 procedure rooms and the post-operative area with 8 bays.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Manage the nursing care of all patients in the Endoscopy unit including delegating to non-professional caregivers within their scope of practice.
Be flexible to cross train and function in all operative areas and other areas such as the OR for ERCPs, radiology for bronchoscopies, travel endoscopies, pre-op, recovery, front desk, and decontamination/sterilization of equipment.
Prepare patients for endoscopies.
Complete assessments of the physical and psychological status of the patient, obtain pre-op vital, complete admission, complete pre-op documentation, conduct pre-op testing, and report findings to the physician when necessary.
Ensure that all necessary consents and charting components are available and filled out correctly.
Assist the physician with the endoscopic procedures,
Remain competent in the use of equipment, accurate documentation and specimen labeling.
Communicate relevant information to the anesthesia provider and physician.
Be responsible for the care of post-procedure patients.
Ensure patients are stable, meet all requirements to be safely discharged, and accurately complete the post-operative documentation.
Identify unsafe practices and participate in seeking a solution.
Maintain privacy and confidentiality.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
Current Ohio license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Two years of nursing experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire or within six months of hire.
Knowledge of the theory and principles of endoscopy and perioperative nursing.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Recent endoscopy experience which may include ICU or PACU experience.
Membership in a professional society.

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.Personal Protective Equipment:
