Process Control Engineer

Overview We are seeking a Process Control Engineer to design, implement, and maintain control systems (DCS and PLC) for real-time, online management of production processes.  The successful candidate will collaborate with operations, maintenance, technical services, environmental, engineering, and IT teams to enhance manufacturing efficiency and quality by leveraging control system expertise to minimize variability and reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities Lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance among employees. Implement and uphold all company systems, policies, and procedures. Foster accountability for performance, behavior, and actions among team members and all facility personnel. Maintain control systems through necessary configuration updates, routine backups, and comprehensive documentation. Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and technical service teams to optimize control systems, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support. Assist engineering teams in designing, configuring, testing, training, and launching capital projects. Coordinate with facility and contract technicians to execute physical tasks. Engage with third-party service vendors, such as ABB. Participate in on-call rotations during off-hours and weekends. Initiate and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Paper Science, or equivalent experience. An Associate’s degree in automation technology or a related field will also be considered. Experience with control systems like DeltaV, Provox, Foxboro, or similar within a pulp and paper environment is preferred. Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers such as Modicon and ControlLogix is desirable. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively across all levels of a manufacturing organization. Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Quick to learn new technologies and processes. Proficient in personal computer applications. A positive attitude, self-motivated, adaptable, and focused. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
